The BBC licence fee is going up from £180 to over £200. Fewer people watching every year, and we still get charged more for it. Miss a payment and you get threatening letters through the door. Any other business losing customers would cut its prices. The BBC just puts the bill up.

🚨BREAKING: All Britons may need ID to use social media, the UK's online safety regulator today announces “This plan for a government ‘social media ban’ is a national ID system by the back door. Both the government and Ofcom have admitted that children will get around the ban, which means the real effect will be normalising adults and children alike to hand over their passports just to get online. Hundreds of thousands of people without ID, who tend to be poorer people, and many more who don’t want to risk handing their passports over to foreign tech companies will be locked out of huge parts of the internet. The plan will kill anonymity online, whilst the UK’s culture of speech policing is reaching a crisis point. The policy is painfully misguided, an Orwellian assault on free speech and privacy, and will make children no safer at all. The false illusion that children aren’t on social media will cause the companies to abandon all their child safety measures. The Government could be promoting meaningful safety measures and supporting parental controls that genuinely protect children - instead, they’re demanding government ID from the whole population just for uncensored internet access. It is authoritarian madness.” - Silkie Carlo | @silkiecarlo Read ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

"Papers Please" to get online? We say NO! @andyburnham @UKLabour Social media platforms already know an extraordinary amount about their users They can already use AI to infer whether someone is a child or teenager to a high degree of accuracy Before putting millions of adults through an ID checkpoint to access social media, the Government and the platforms should have to explain why the information they already have isn't enough - and how requiring every single user to prove their age using government-issued ID can possibly be: - Necessary - Proportionate - Or indeed safe in itself - given databases are compromised ALL THE TIME #dontidtheinternet

Poundland could fall into administration ‘within days’, thousands of jobs at risk. It has been owned multiple times by private equity and never recovered, over £253m debt. Misleading name. Many items priced at more than a Pound. Shoppers didn't return. independent.co.uk/news/busin…

Billionaire-backed C40 Cities works through city mayors to advance far-reaching Net Zero policies - including measures designed to restrict private-car use. This allows policies never clearly put to voters in a national manifesto to spread from city to city, often without proper public debate or parliamentary scrutiny. Andy Burnham signed a major C40 transport declaration as Greater Manchester Mayor. His drive to transfer even more power to regional mayors should be examined in that context.

This government is going to try and FORCE EVERYONE to digitally ID verify to get on social media Social media users face passport checks to enforce under-16 ban Ministers seek harder line on ID verification Social media companies will be required to implement “hard checks” on people’s ages such as demanding passports or driving licences under plans to stop children from using their platforms. The government is due to announce plans for a social media ban for under-16s in the coming weeks amid concerns that children are being exposed to harmful content. Tell @andyburnham No! We must all challenge this together No to Digital ID! @Togetherdec

As long as the borders are open (and they are), it. Will. Never. Crash. It hasn't crashed in Australia. It hasn't crashed in New Zealand. It hasn't crashed in Canada. Wake up and smell the melt up.

A digital driving licence on your phone is not the same thing as a compulsory national Digital ID However, the Government is connecting digital credentials, the GOV UK Wallet and the One Login app - and something much bigger is starting to take shape It's not just what each part does TODAY - it's what the combined system could become TOMORROW We must not let these systems evolve into Digital ID in all but name, through expansion, function creep or the loss of offline alternatives The surest way to stop One Login becoming the only way to interact with the state is to refuse to let it become the default Wherever a genuine alternative exists, use it - and demand that government protects that choice in law

I’m coming off a fixed mortgage rate of 2.2%. I’ve just been told to expect around 5% when I remortgage. Same house. Same mortgage. It’s going to cost me a few hundred quid a month more. That’s going to hurt. 😬

Andy Burnham just increased the foreign aid budget to £21 billion a year. That’s money we don’t have that we have to borrow to give to other people Yesterday, the interest rate on long-term British debt hit 6% That means the daily repayments on just one year of foreign aid is £3,452,000 PER DAY
