Join this amazing crew in fall’24! The @speirsquad is looking for a great team player with a positive attitude, willing to dig into the nitty gritty of WQ sensors! See ad for info!
They’ll join the QuEST project led by @alxweb, w/ @DrArialShogren, @jrblasz, & Adam Wymore!
IT'S OFFICIAL! The #SpeirSquad is recruiting a master's student for Fall 2024 🥳 The selected student will join the QuEST project team and focus on #WaterQuality sensor data for their thesis.
Email @ecospeir with the info noted in the ad ASAP to inquire! @sfs_src @BenthosNews
First paper from my time as a postdoc at Alabama! #RollTide
Uncertainty in Q can cascade into big errors in nutrient export - both under/overestimates. Critical implications for management and nutrient reduction strategies!!

Great review paper on C-Q relationships!
This is one of those rare gems -- its both a great synthesis of contemporary literature AND its instructive for folks new to the technique.
Big thanks @ecospeir, @DrArialShogren, @michwolford, and coauthors!

The #SpeirSquad knows how to ring in the new water year!
We had a potluck celebration to kick off the 2024 water year ft. pasta, cowboy caviar, guac, pies, cobbler, brownies, etc.
The new water year also marks the start of #QuEST sampling & Caroline's urban stream project!

Go team!!!
The #SpeirSquad represented at the #AWRC Conference last week!
Shannon spoke on watershed-scale monitoring. #wundergrads Brynnen, Deo, Lilly, & Ire presented posters on their projects, & Claire presented on her EcoREU work.
We are excited to share our work with stakeholders!
Normalize talking about how painful figuring out gas solubility stuff is 🤪 guess I should have double majored in physics!!
The #SpeirSquad & friends had an adventure in MS working on #MIMS methods development last week 🫧 many #DissolvedGas samples were measured, lots of ice cream was eaten, & brains were broken thinking about #GasSolubility. Cheers to great collabs & new methods in the works!

We developed a model to estimate river ecosystem productivity resilience and site-specific disturbance flow thresholds from widely available GPP time series! Thanks to co-authors @biogeobob, @bkshriver, and C. Yackulic!
Welcome Caroline!!!
MEET THE TEAM | Caroline Anscombe is a master’s student starting in the #SpeirSquad in August. Her project focuses on the spatial patterns in urban stream #waterquality in Fayetteville and the effects of salinization on leaf litter decomposition.

#WhyWaterWednesday Alana grew up in FL, where she learned how to swim, fish, & wakeboard on the St. Lucie River, which now experiences toxic #algalblooms. Watching this ecosystem destruction motivated her to do #appliedresearch to protect waterways across the USA. @AginArk

It's #MonitoringMonday & our newest teammate Alana’s 1st field day!
This AM, the #SpeirSquad went to Brush Creek sample the watershed. Many sites were already dry! Intermittent streams play a big role in downstream water quality, so we're excited to continue collecting data!
