Interesting column in The Independent from former Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger, who appears outraged that Ofcom isn't doing more to regulate GB News. He suggests that the law shouldn't permit a “right-wing broadcaster”. But why is he so concerned about alleged right-wing bias at GB News, rather than allegations of left-wing bias at the BBC or Sky News? And what about The Guardian, which Rusbridger himself has acknowledged is left of centre? And isn't there a certain irony in making this argument in The Independent - a newspaper that openly embraces 'progressive' values and has itself faced criticism for, erm, not being particularly 'independent'? Of course, newspapers aren't subject to the same impartiality rules as broadcasters. But having a political perspective isn't automatically the same as breaching impartiality rules. And if you're concerned about ideological bias in journalism, shouldn't you be equally curious about it wherever it occurs? Read below 👇

Has anyone asked Wes, Lord Cashman & Ruth Hunt why on earth they never even mentioned all the exorcisms during their Stonewall years. Seems a little remiss of them 🤷‍♀️

This @Telegraph article doesn't reference the NFWI, but the @WomensInstitute has put its London HQ up for sale (not that members may be aware). The WI is in decline and the priority of the NFWI is not the membership. telegraph.co.uk/gift/3397ed0… danielwatney.co.uk/propertie…

The second clock is the Astronomical Clock, a World War II memorial to 18,000 RAF airmen from Yorkshire, Durham, and Northumberland who died during the conflict. Due to damage sustained during the 1984 fire it was stopped due to poor timekeeping after restoration attempts failed.

French intelligence expects 400,000—500,000 people to march across France tomorrow. Warns of likely attacks on public buildings and other symbols of the state plus "opportunistic looting". So a repeat of last Saturday expected. But with some shopkeepers organising their own defence. We shall see. Even more significant, French security services particularly concerned about 20,000 to 40,000 expected at Saturday's rally in Orleans organised by hard-left (communist) CGT union to protest against Marine Le Pen’s National Rally, which is holding its congress (conference) in Orleans. The National Rally expects about 5,000 people there on Saturday and up to 10,000 on Sunday, when Le Pen launches her presidential campaign. Protests on Sunday have been banned — though that doesn’t mean they won’t happen. Orleans will be a tinderbox.

The irony is a British women’s football team competing at the Olympics will NOT have to play against males but in a women’s World Cup brought to the uk (with tax payers money) females would have to play males regardless of Uk law saying that should not happen! Because @UKLabour voted against assured fair & safe sport for women & girls yesterday & the fence sitting @LibDems abstained 🤨 Our girls deserve reality sex based rights in sport

the @ASA_UK complaint I made was upheld about Do Health @drchatterjeeuk. Commercial screening brings false positives, false reassurance, overdiagnosis. Will the @gmcuk act on the dozens of drs making false claims and have commercial conflicts of interests?

Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Our airport! What a mess they have got themselves into. Back in 2022, @olivercoppard said at a public meeting he had neither the power nor the money to buy the airport. Yet the Gainshare funding and powers had been provided by the Conservative government. And in August 2022, Aviation Minister Robert Courts wrote to him explicitly urging him to consider the public ownership model used at Teesside. So what was missing then that makes a purchase possible now? In 2024, just before Oliver’s re-election (coincidence?), @MayorRos approved what was, quite simply, an appalling lease with Peel. In 2025, her manifesto promised to reopen our airport by 2026. Now it’s 2026. Still no open airport and, millions of pounds later, the @SouthYorksMCA board papers say the necessary lease changes could not be secured. So poor was this lease that, without changes, SYMCA would not release the funding. The proposed solution? Buy the airport. Officials at both authorities told the @DonnyFreePress it was "categorically incorrect" to say the lease renegotiations had failed. Unfortunately, somebody forgot to tell the people writing the board papers. Meanwhile, the usual suspects are clapping like performing seals at a water park. All we need now is somebody throwing them a fish. Before the next round of applause, somebody should ask the obvious Yorkshire question: HOW MUCH? Nobody seems to want to. Hardly surprising when the same council sycophants have dominated the town for decades. So I will. How much? I also ask: how can you negotiate a good price when you're stuck in a lease you're trying to escape? Reform, meanwhile, are taking the glory for what many of us said four years ago: buy the thing. But they, too, are applauding before they know the deal. They backed the £57 million borrowing, sought to reverse it, then backed it again. Labour's leaders are inept. Reform appears not to have a leader at all. So where are we? No passenger flights. No freight flights. No controlled airspace. And, in my view, no convincing plan. What we do have is officials posing for photos and two mayors who want to spend our money. And, as I often say, "Spending money is easy. Earning it is the hard part." Build a business with your own money and mistakes come out of your own pocket. Here, they come out of ours. Our mayors have never built their own businesses, just spent our money. And it shows. The people of Doncaster deserve better. It is our money, and we will all live with the consequences. I want our airport open. I want holidays abroad not freight flights at 2am and our Gainshare money gone for decades. I want leaders who do the right thing for the right reasons, not for their own careers. Sadly, I think we will all be waiting for a long time. #NotFitToLead

When I was 16-20 I worked as a checkout girl at Tesco. We had a female changing room and a male changing room. Were I employed there today, this union would work against me and my fellow female employees to keep men with special feelings out of that changing room. Extraordinary.

It's rare that I find myself agreeing with Roo, but this is spot on. Currently parkrun is very much a men's sport, with men able to take placings and records away from women in the female results category. There really should be a women's category though.

EXCL: The creator of the ‘Palestine poppy’ is an Oxford-educated paediatrician who has written books for Muslim teenagers justifying stoning and warning that homosexuality is ‘a test from Allah’. The Spectator can now reveal that Abdul Qader Ismail is an active member of Greens for Palestine and co-sponsored the group’s ‘Zionism is Racism’ policy. He is also the author of a book series titled An Introduction to Challenging Topics for Muslim Teens. The books provide justifications (within specific conditions) for stoning, crucification, cutting off hands and female genital mutilation. Ismail describes same-sex attraction as a ‘test from Allah’ and says homosexual relationships are wrong. He writes: ‘Even if we have homosexual feelings, we would not be able to act upon them without displeasing Allah… Having homosexual feelings is not a sin, and if we pray to Allah to help us and we do not act upon our feelings, Allah will be pleased with us.’

Pathetic, meaningless address from President Macron to the people of France tonight. The anger here is palpable. I have written what it all means in a column in tomorrow’s Daily Mail. L’agonie de la France is set to continue and Macron is now an irrelevance.
BREAKING: 'How can French people do this to France?' French President Emmanuel Macron has said the country is feeling 'anger and shame' over recent protests in the country. Calling for peace, the president said 'nothing' justifies the riots and damage caused in multiple cities.
