Very curious, often excited. Works on alternative energy, still digs fossils. #scicomm

Today I'm making electrodes for an enzymatic fuel cell. Enzymes are biological catalysts, they speed up chemical rxns. Some enzymes add or remove electrons from molecules as they do their catalysis. Put these on an electrode and BAM!* you can generate an electrical current.1/3ish

According to the third grader I spoke to there seems to be a well-researched body of knowledge to draw from!

I'm not entirely sad about being inside on a gorgeous day watching videos and reading pop sci articles about about dragons. I've signed on to give a "Science of Game of Thrones" talk at the library. My first venture into pop-culture sci-comm!

Carla Sagan feels similarly. I reminded her that she doesn't have to write, take, or grade any finals. She was not impressed.

As a fellow basement lab goblin, I'm also jealous of those windows!

One of the lovely things about being the first one into lab is the ability to throw secret one-person early morning dance parties in the office. #Phdchat #Phdlife #BetterThanCoffee #WellNotQuite #RealTimeChem

Congrats! I picked up one of those in grad school. One of my better decisions. Her name is Carla Sagan.

I'd love to find a stir bar. Any stir bar.

For all the outlets and people saying that the black hole photo "isn't very good." Y'all-we turned our *planet* into a telescope. A telescope as big as the Earth! We went back in time 55 million years to look at an object that eats light. Melt your icy hearts you monsters!

Add a warm beer and it's just like you're in grad school.

Hearing about #BlackHoles this morning? Here's a refresher on what a black hole IS. 🤔 It's a place where a large amount of mass has been squeezed into a tiny space. The gravity is so strong that not even light can escape from a black hole. Learn more: go.nasa.gov/2Us0m7v

Great list!
First lab meeting for the quarter and we tried something new: I asked my UG students: "What does it take to be a successful researcher? i.e. What do you want to learn?" Here's what they said:
One poster session and two talks done, I finally remembered that my hotel has a pool! So did this duck. 🦆 #ACSOrlando #Sunblock #LabPale
