I don't think or argue that China's economy is broken, but a few days at a conference in Shanghai is like drinking the cream at the top of the milk
Back from a conference in Shanghai. Malls are packed, trains and planes are full. Let's make this simple, anyone who argues that the Chinese economy or financial system is broken has no clue what they are talking about. It's not.

Opened up our abliterated deepseek more broadly. Hosted privately in our TEEs, no KYC. I believe this is important for security work because there’s nothing worse than trusting random abliterated providers with your vulnerability results. Protect your infra and your prompts.
New on Maple Max and Team: DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, abliterated. Refusals removed from the model itself, so it works through security questions instead of declining them. - 1M context - Runs in the same attested enclaves as every Maple model - Built for security research, code audits and red-teaming Attackers already run uncensored models. Defenders shouldn't be stuck with "I can't help with that."

css tip 📍 - the same :𝚝𝚊𝚛𝚐𝚎𝚝-𝚌𝚞𝚛𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚝 gives you a scrollspy with no js. .𝚝𝚘𝚌 { 𝚜𝚌𝚛𝚘𝚕𝚕-𝚝𝚊𝚛𝚐𝚎𝚝-𝚐𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚙: 𝚊𝚞𝚝𝚘; } .𝚝𝚘𝚌 𝚊:𝚝𝚊𝚛𝚐𝚎𝚝-𝚌𝚞𝚛𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚝 { 𝚋𝚊𝚌𝚔𝚐𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚍: 𝚋𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚔; 𝚌𝚘𝚕𝚘𝚛: 𝚠𝚑𝚒𝚝𝚎; } each <𝚊 𝚑𝚛𝚎𝚏="#𝚒𝚍"> in .𝚝𝚘𝚌 tracks its section. the link for the section in view matches :𝚝𝚊𝚛𝚐𝚎𝚝-𝚌𝚞𝚛𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚝 and follows as you scroll.
css tip 🪟 - carousel tabs with no js. one line turns a scroll-snap carousel into a real tab list: .𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚕 { 𝚜𝚌𝚛𝚘𝚕𝚕-𝚖𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚎𝚛-𝚐𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚙: 𝚋𝚎𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚝𝚊𝚋𝚜; } .𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚕::𝚜𝚌𝚛𝚘𝚕𝚕-𝚖𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚎𝚛-𝚐𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚙 { 𝚍𝚒𝚜𝚙𝚕𝚊𝚢: 𝚏𝚕𝚎𝚡; 𝚐𝚊𝚙: 𝟾𝚙𝚡; 𝚑𝚎𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝: 𝟺𝟾𝚙𝚡; } .𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚕 > 𝚕𝚒::𝚜𝚌𝚛𝚘𝚕𝚕-𝚖𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚎𝚛 { 𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚝𝚎𝚗𝚝: 𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚛(𝚍𝚊𝚝𝚊-𝚝𝚊𝚋); } .𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚕 > 𝚕𝚒::𝚜𝚌𝚛𝚘𝚕𝚕-𝚖𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚎𝚛:𝚝𝚊𝚛𝚐𝚎𝚝-𝚌𝚞𝚛𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚝 { 𝚋𝚊𝚌𝚔𝚐𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚍: 𝚋𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚔; 𝚌𝚘𝚕𝚘𝚛: 𝚠𝚑𝚒𝚝𝚎; }

What's a computer or console you always dreamed of as a kid/teenager but that was simply out of reach? If there was ever an unachievable goal (or better yet, dream) from my teenage gaming years, it was owning the otherworldly Neo Geo. Alas, it was so far out of reach it might as well have been on the moon. The Neo Geo AES (Advanced Entertainment System) was deliberately positioned and priced as an extreme luxury console. Launch price was around $650 in North America (1990–91). Adjusted for inflation, that’s roughly $1,500+ in today’s money. But here’s the real kicker: games typically cost $200 to $300 each, sometimes even more. A single cartridge could cost as much as an entire competing console plus several games. SNK was selling "the arcade in your living room" as a status product - essentially the Ferrari of consoles. The core appeal was that it wasn’t a home console with an arcade port. It was THE arcade hardware.

Taiwan’s adult-film industry was built for Chinese viewers in a country where making adult films is illegal. When China’s crackdown hit, it collapsed. China was the core customer. With no legal domestic industry, Chinese men aged 25 to 35 became the market. Producers like Madou Media filmed in Taiwan, where uncensored production is legal, then tailored everything for China: Chinese dialogue, simplified-Chinese packaging, mainland accents, and apps harder for censors to block. Madou claimed tens of millions of downloads. The money came through gambling. Content was often free or cheap to push viewers to online casinos, with producers paid via ads. Insiders told BBC Chinese the 2020 boom was driven by Chinese demand, gambling advertising, and gray capital. At its peak, more than 20 companies released 180 to 300 titles a month. China pushed back. Its cyberspace regulator listed Madou’s app for removal in 2020. In 2022, Shanghai police dismantled three filming crews supplying Madou and similar platforms and arrested 24 people. Broader crackdowns on online gambling and telecom fraud then cut off the gray money sustaining the sector. Madou shut down permanently on 2 April 2026, citing piracy and an unsustainable market. Rumors linked it to Cambodia’s Prince Group and its alleged gambling and scam networks, but Madou denied this. The BBC found only timing overlaps, not proof of ownership. An industry that existed because of Chinese demand and Chinese-linked money could not survive once Beijing cut both off.
台湾曾被视为亚洲唯一能合法拍摄无码成人影片的地区,并在2020年前后快速扩张。随着片商“麻豆传媒”停运,外界开始质疑这波繁荣是否与中国市场及博弈资金有关。

Slowly, but surely. I won't stop until I've fully rooted every one of my cameras. I'm done dealing with these junky apps and a bunch of different, awful cloud services each trying to get $12/month. I want all of them to just flow into a single system I control with my agents.

I've been spammed with password reset demand from my Microsoft account. At a rate of 2 per days. Not phishing, just pure brute force. Password resets needs 6 digits they send by email. So it doesn't seem likely to find anything. But a malicious actor which try every day, with a dump of millions of leaked account he found somewhere? Well he will crack a few of those with brute force every day... Use 2FA.

Ren Zeping (任泽平), the famous Chinese economist and online commentator, is trending on Weibo after his WeChat account was suddenly restricted from gaining new followers today due to a platform violation. His account is still up (任泽平宏观), but seems to be shadowbanned as well. Ren's last post before the ban was a post titled "The Market Has Bottomed Out, and a Rebound Is Underway." In the post, he stressed pressure on the Chinese economy, weak domestic demand, and declining consumption and investment, but emphasized that AI & leading domestic tech companies are the main opportunities going forward. But it's completely unclear whether that analysis, or any of the hundreds of other posts on his account, got him in trouble this time. One WeChat blogger commented, "If such a badass analyst can't even figure out which of his own writing got him banned, then just how seriously should we take him?" But another Weibo account shared their experience of just how unpredictable it can be, as their accounts across all platforms were also muted during Covid: "Honestly, even now, I have no idea what the supposed standards are for running an independent social media account. To put it bluntly, I don’t know whether my account will still be here tomorrow, or whether something I posted in the past will be dug up and used to hold me accountable." Ren was previously banned from posting on his Weibo account in 2022 for proposing that the central bank set up a $314 billion “fertility fund” to encourage people to have more babies.
