Three days in #Scotland, and three remarkable events. First day: Arriving in Glasgow, the border police officer at Glasgow airport notices our German passports and greets us in German, even tries some light conversation with his limited knowledge of the language. 1/

How incredible is this? Horses are brilliant at not overgrazing - they don’t focus on one plant or one part of a plant. They love heather - but not in this state so he’s picking the gorse out. This time of yr they love gorse - ponies have grazing benefits all yr round

I’m sat in a London pub wearing running gear and a tinfoil cape while strangers buy me beer. Works every year. 😉🍻

Today marks the 130th anniversary of the Crofters Common Grazings Regulations Act 1891. Common Grazings are a fundamental part of the crofting system, in which shareholders have various important rights including grazing their animals.

When I first moved rural I thought I was losing my mind. As a Good Environmentalist I knew plant based diets were the best for the planet. But here in front of my eyes: veg fields as ecological wastelands and animal fields (even continuously grazed) as functioning ecosystems. 🤔

Such a good point - producing beef means keeping soils covered, grazing animals within diverse habitats and easily incorporating trees. Meeting demand for root veg means soils are exposed and trees and habitats marginalised - it’s a HUGE challenge.

Ways To Lose Underdog Spirit. 1. Stop hiring the awkward ones. 2. Chase the numbers, not the change. 3. Stop innovating. 4. Stop trusting the team. 5. Make slow decisions. 6. Forget why you started. 7. Oust the founder. 8. Let success steal your hunger.
