Since the start of 2025, Non-American Western intellectual and policy elites have been going on about how China is a more “certain” partner than the US. The latest US mid-term elections results show that while China’s “certainty” is unchecked authoritarianism, the US is also displaying “certainty” in terms of an ability to self-correct and to impose checks and balances. Democracy (for all its imperfections) means that we can wait out Trump’s insanity; authoritarianism means that Xi’s insanity will endure.

Despite its risks, AUKUS is an important element of the region’s collective deterrence against the PRC’s coercive tendencies. Disappointing to see a former CDF, no matter how out of touch with modern geostrategic realities, succumb to the CCP’s “resistance is futile” narrative.
AUKUS Public Inquiry commissioner and former Chief of the Australian Defence Force Admiral Chris Barrie (Rtd) says Australia would not go to war against China in its own national interest. It would only be in the USA's interest.

The villain for Bond 26 has been cast.
Yesterday, Putin revealed that Russian authorities are "in close touch" with Elon Musk about the technology Ukraine needs to defend itself. Our new report @TheAtlantic investigates how @elonmusk went from supporting Ukraine to coordinating with Moscow. theatlantic.com/national-sec…

In the fantasy la-la-land the Greens inhabit, there is no need for a credible defence force, US alliance or providing military aid to other democracies. Their policy is to deflect to diplomacy as the only acceptable form of defence. With Russia and China, diplomacy = submission.
It is worth watching @andrewprobyn ‘s question to @DavidShoebridge at the @PressClubAust today on Shoebridge’s incoherent policy on Ukraine. Over 17,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed following Russia’s illegal invasion. Suggesting that it is wrong to support their defence is morally indefensible. Probyn said it best: “Senator, pronouncements of peace & non-violence don’t win a war. Bullets & bombs win wars.” A classic example of ideology taking precedence over the practical consequences for innocent civilians in a country fighting for its survival.

I analyzed hundreds of tweets from this past weekend and found evidence of two unique disinformation campaigns amplifying Elon Musk’s accusations against Ukraine. One of these campaigns can be traced back to a Russian social media account and one of Putin’s top allies. my latest. (Link 👇)

Make no mistake, ‘the president’s reckless abdication of America’s role as leader of the free world’ has wider implications than Ukraine and the mid-terms. It gives further ammo to critics in allied nations seeking to break with the US and will embolden PRC and other adversaries.
Humiliating and dangerous: Trump has now finally just made America an ally of the Kremlin and is aiding Putin in his war against an American friend and partner. Shameful betrayal of a US friend, and pathetic submission to a US enemy. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1…

“This is a hoax, gullible nutjobs.”
Here is yet another fake 9/11 video that refuses to die. If you’ve seen this supposed footage of WTC 7 showing flashes of explosives or “squibs” 🙄 accompanied by booming detonations, you’re watching a hoax. It was created in 2011 by YouTuber Edward Current as an experiment in just how readily conspiracy believers would accept dramatic-looking “evidence” without checking where it came from. Spoiler: they fell for it, hook, line, and sinker. He took existing footage of WTC 7’s collapse, flipped and manipulated it, zoomed and degraded the image, and added fake explosion flashes, visual effects and dubbed-in explosion sounds. He added a flying saucer. He even planted a message inside the video. Rotate the inserted frame and it literally reads: “This is a hoax. gullible nutjobs!” And people fell for it anyway. Copies were quickly being circulated under titles such as “NEW VIDEO SEPT 2011. WTC Building 7 Controlled Demolition (Visible Explosions)” and presented as authentic evidence of controlled demolition. The fake continued circulating for years - it was even cited publicly in 2018 as supposed evidence that WTC 7 had been demolished. Current then revealed the joke himself in “They Fell For My Hoax 9/11 Video.” He walks through what he did, shows the source footage, explains the alterations and shows reactions from people who eagerly treated his fabrication as genuine “never-before-seen” evidence. The remarkable part is that apparently the lesson didn’t take. Fifteen years later, people are STILL circulating a deliberately fabricated video as genuine 9/11 evidence. And this is precisely why “LOOK AT THIS VIDEO!” is not an investigation. Find the source. Find the earliest version. Compare it with the original footage. Check whether somebody manipulated it. And maybe check whether the person who made it already admitted it was a hoax. Sometimes the “smoking gun” was literally created as a joke to see whether you would fall for it. Conspiracy addicts always do.

The Kimmel suspension is a much bigger deal than you know. It's really about a growing alliance between Trump and the companies that own America's local TV stations - like Nexstar - to turn local TV into Trump propaganda. 1/ Let me tell you the short story. It's chilling.

Meanwhile, Russia has already spent 1,303 days unsuccessfully trying to crush Ukraine in its full-scale war of aggression. That is already 78% of the length of the World War I, almost 60% of the entire World War II, and in particular 92% of the war on the Soviet-German Eastern Front.

So while we're still allowed to tell jokes about political leaders, here's one from Mussolini's Italy. A woman in her middle years ventures one day to the market to buy food for her family. All the stalls are depleted by shortages: no meat, no vegetables, not even macaroni. 1/x
