It is refreshing to see the term “Timurid” being used instead of “Mughal” by important voices in history.

Naipaul on Babri is useful to understand this phenomenon:
“The people who say that there was no temple there are missing the point. Babar, you must understand, had contempt for the country he had conquered. And his building of that mosque was an act of contempt for the country...In Ayodhya the construction of a mosque on a spot regarded as sacred by the conquered population was meant as an insult to an ancient idea, the idea of Ram which was two or three thousand years old.”
"Only now are the people beginning to understand that there has been a great vandalising of India. Because of the nature of the conquest and the nature of Hindu society such understanding had eluded Indians before."

Haha… is she Bengali enough by culture?
The “Śrīrām Pācālī” by poet Krittibas Ojha exclusively has Shri Ram worshipping Maa Durga.
Only the uncultured would make such a statement about a polytheistic system.

One repercussion of writing this research book: gained 10 kgs sitting 7–8 hours at a stretch. At some point, you forget who you are and begin living in another realm. Had it been fiction, a month was enough. Research demands years of immersion.

Sadar Pranam Pradhansewak @narendramodi ji!
I humbly seek your attention towards a matter where your own words and vision were misrepresented to justify the curtailment of my Freedom of Expression.
It has now been 115 days since I first wrote this letter (in quoted post). I understand fully that, as the leader of Bharat and one of the most important statesmen in the world, your responsibilities are immense. Yet every citizen, however small, seeks justice and dignity; and today I write with that hope.
Over the years, through extensive work with primary historical sources; including learning Farsi to read original manuscripts myself; I attempted to bring forward uncomfortable but documented truths regarding the Timurids (wrongly termed “Mughals”) and medieval Indian history. My research exposed (I’m first Indian to do these):
A) Each and every documented atrocities and actions of Babur against Hindus
B) The fabricated “Bhopal Wasiyat of Babur,” falsely used to establish secular credentials
C) Myths surrounding the destruction of the Ram Mandir, including identifying the actual perpetrators
D) How the Timurids systematically extracted wealth (and even transferred out of India) from Bharat and impoverished Bharatiyas
E) That the Timurids never truly viewed Bharat as their homeland
F) Capital punishment imposed upon Hindus during Timurid rule for marrying Muslim women — exposing the hollow romanticism around so-called “Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb”
G) The devastating famine under Shahjahan, where deaths are estimated to have exceeded even the Bengal famine associated with Churchill
…among many other findings rooted in archival evidence.
For this scholarship, I was met not with debate, but with intimidation, defamation, and organised attempts to silence me. Threats were issued to burn my books. Under the watch of @CMMadhyaPradesh, my works were effectively banned from a literature festival. Officials including the Director of Sahitya Akademi and the Vice Chancellor of @MCNUJC_Bhopal openly justified suppressing my participation at @bhopal_lit_fest.
Most painfully, the Vice Chancellor of the university, @vijaye9, even invoked and misrepresented your own words and principles in an Op-Ed published in @OpIndia_in to justify curbing my session.

I had also written in detail to Education Minister @dpradhanbjp regarding these actions, but unfortunately nothing changed.
What saddened me most was not merely the opposition from ideological adversaries, but the silence and hostility from those who claim to stand for civilisational truth. For decades, we lamented the distortion of Bharat’s history by Leftist academia. Yet today, even genuine archival scholarship is often abandoned in favour of slogans and optics.
The entire episode turned the so-called Right Wing into a spectacle before the same Left-liberal ecosystem, which once again found an opportunity to portray organisations like Bajrang Dal and VHP as intolerant aggressors — especially when threats were openly made to disrupt my session and burn my books.
This experience has deeply shaken me.
Five years ago, I had promised readers a comprehensive historical series on every Timurid emperor. My two-volume work (covers attached) on Babur was only the beginning. I was preparing to continue with Akbar, Jehangir, Shahjahan, and Aurangzeb. But today, I genuinely wonder whether serious indigenous scholarship in Bharat has any institutional support at all.
If voices working directly with primary sources are isolated, vilified, and silenced, then perhaps our future generations are destined to inherit history solely from authors like Audrey Truschke; who have already laboured extensively to sanitise figures like Aurangzeb.
I still hope that your esteemed office will look into this matter and uphold the principles of intellectual freedom, honest scholarship, and civilisational self-respect.

I had no option but to write this open letter to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, @narendramodi ji.
My scheduled session on my new book, Babur: The Quest for Hindustan, at the @bhopal_lit_fest 2026 was cancelled after the newspaper Swadesh published false and defamatory reports alleging that I intended to glorify Babur. These unfounded claims triggered threats from certain so-called Hindu organizations, including calls to burn my book and vandalize bookstore.
What is even more disturbing is that the Culture Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Dharmendra Singh Lodhi, publicly condemned the session without reading even a single page of the book. This raises serious concerns about the functioning and intellectual integrity of the Culture Ministry of Madhya Pradesh, where literary works are being judged without being read. Equally troubling was the response of Shri Vikas Dave, Director, @sahityaakademi, Madhya Pradesh, who also criticized the book and the session without any familiarity with its contents. It is deeply ironic that the head of a premier literary institution would pass judgment on a book without reading it.
I openly challenge all those who objected to the session; including the individuals mentioned above and officials from the Office of the @CMMadhyaPradesh ; to point out even a single page from my book where Babur is glorified. On the contrary, this work has previously been criticised by sections of the Left for being critical of Babur.
The proposed session was intended to discuss the so-called “Bhopal Wasiyatnama,” a nineteenth-century forgery falsely presented as Babur’s will to portray him as tolerant towards Hindus. By cancelling the session, these self-proclaimed guardians of the cause destroyed an opportunity to expose a major Marxist fabrication at the very place of its origin; Bhopal. Had they genuinely cared for historical truth, they would have challenged this forged document long ago. Instead, in the name of safeguarding sentiment, they actively sabotaged an effort rooted in scholarship.
This book is also among the very few works that conclusively demonstrates, through primary sources, that the Timurids; incorrectly referred to as “Mughals”; never considered Hindustan their homeland and consistently viewed Samarkand as their true center.
Regrettably, all this transpired due to a profound lack of education and intellectual rigor, shockingly reflected even in constitutional and institutional positions such as the Culture Minister and the Director of the Sahitya Akademi.
Beginning with the false reporting by Swadesh, I was systematically defamed through allegations that I never made. This episode exposes the alarming state of our public engagement with history.
Prime Minister Sir, I am not disheartened merely because my session could not take place; I have long been accustomed to criticism and hostility from the Left. What pains me is that those who claim to oppose Babur do not even recognize the scholars who are equipping them with intellectual tools for that very debate.
I sincerely hope that you will take note of this matter and ensure that individuals who dedicate their lives to the study of history and civilization; often while pursuing demanding professions alongside, as I do in architecture; are not obstructed by those who contribute little beyond noise and disruption, and who create barriers instead of advancing the cause they claim to defend.
