Great piece on the drawbacks of using AI to write. #2 is extra important for talented writers, because AI cannot match elite clarity or concision. #3 is even worse than stated because AI writing is highly recognizable. People read what you write because they value your thinking. The moment they clock (or even suspect) you didn't think hard about the words they're reading, your entire piece loses credibility.

Trial lawyers are lobbying against self-driving cars because they're too safe. They need people to be killed and injured so that they have material for lawsuits.

Andrej Karpathy told Elon Musk that Tesla will grow from $45B to $1.5T using AI - while competitors spent billions doing it the old way after this presentation Tesla's stock dropped 3.9% Karpathy stood up and explained why every competitor will lose "lidar is a crutch - it sidesteps the fundamental problem " Musk: "every mile driven is training the network - whether autopilot is on or off " simply because every single driver was training Tesla's model for free that $45B company is now worth $1.5T Waymo spent $27 billion. It can all be so much more beautiful. Even the simple things... the soaps, the sinks, the lamps, and even the door knobs. All of it could delight us, if only we cared a little more. The problem isn't a lack of money. The problem is apathy. Making something beautiful begins with the decision to elevate your standards and commit to making something beautiful, and our culture has forgotten that simple fact. Until we raise our sights again, we'll be trapped in a dull existence of flat surfaces, lifeless white walls, and mass-produced objects that have no soul.

Trump is basically asserting that he has the power to arrest and deport anyone -- even a U.S. citizen -- and immediately send them to a foreign prison where the U.S. court system can never touch them again. That is the power of a dictator. noahpinion.blog/p/the-author…

We are partnering with @TheFIREorg to stand up for free speech in the face of recent government actions against critics of U.S. foreign policy. We will work to protect writers who are targeted in this way.

The New York Times now acknowledges that many university professors and administrators have been liberal ideologues rather than seekers of truth. When will they admit that their own reporters and editors have been too?
In an editorial in @nytopinion today correctly criticizing the Trump admin attacks on universities, the editors make a remarkable admission: "many professors and university administrators acted in recent years as liberal ideologues rather than seekers of empirical truth. 1/

Multiverse seems simpler than quantum mechanics because quantum mechanics attempts to explain things concretely and falsifiably; whereas multiverse handwaves away what confounds us to other universes we cannot observe. "Magic portals" would more aptly describe its "explanation."
The multiverse is a better explanation of quantum mechanics because it doesn’t imagine that the law of physics can suddenly stop working when a human looks at them.

Obama made a huge mistake in not commuting every federal death sentence before Trump took office. Barr rushed through as many executions as he could as AG, particularly on his way out. Biden should make these commutations before Gaetz gets there. nwfdailynews.com/story/news/…
