1/ My plumbing story. The other day, an unnamed member of our house tried to toss a pound or more of cubed, old, turkey, into the garbage disposal. I am in no way blaming this person: it's what garbage disposals are for, yeah?

Is Spotify the devil incarnate? This could be the biggest disaster for artists the music business has ever seen. A move that puts more money in Spotify’s own pocket under the guise that it could help artists. Imagine a song going viral from an AI remix you didn’t approve? This steps all over Intellectual property law. 🤯
Spotify just announced a feature that could either save the music industry or destroy it. Starting as early as Q1 2027, Spotify Premium subscribers will be able to use AI to transform any participating artist’s song into a completely different version. Turn a folk ballad into a dance track. Make a hip-hop song sound acoustic. Generate a cover where one artist’s voice performs another artist’s song. Remix a pop hit into lo-fi study music. Create the version of your favorite song that only existed in your head until now. The remixes will be uploaded directly to Spotify. They’ll appear in playlists. They’ll count toward the original song’s chart position. And most importantly the original artist will earn royalties every time someone listens to a fan-created remix of their work. Spotify has already signed a landmark licensing deal with Universal Music Group the world’s largest record label. Negotiations with Sony Music and Warner Music are ongoing. The feature will cost an additional $4–$5/month on top of Spotify Premium. And analysts project 7–8% of American subscribers will adopt it by 2028. This is not Suno or Udio generating music from text prompts. This is fans remixing real songs by real artists with the artists’ permission, on the world’s largest streaming platform, with royalties flowing back to the creators. A music industry analyst who’s covered streaming economics for 15 years told her team something after reading the licensing agreement that reframed how she understood the future of recorded music. “Spotify just turned 640 million listeners into 640 million potential remixers. The question isn’t whether people will use it they will. The question is whether paying artists for fan remixes solves the economics of streaming or creates a world where the original recording is worth less than the infinite remixes generated from it.” Here’s what Spotify’s AI remix feature actually is, who wins, who loses, and why this might be the most consequential decision in the music industry since the launch of streaming itself 🧵

In 1964, a 13-year-old student at London's Barbara Speake Stage School was hired as an extra for the Beatles' first movie, A Hard Day's Night. He was sent to the Scala Theatre and placed in the audience while the Beatles filmed their concert sequence. His job was simple: be one of the screaming young Beatles fans. When the movie came out, he looked for himself but couldn't find the footage. Thirty years later, producer Walter Shenson gave him the unused film from that day. He went through it until he finally found his 13-year-old self in the audience. The performance was "You Can't Do That," which had been cut from the finished film. The kid in the middle of this photo went on to have quite a music career of his own. That 13-year-old was Phil Collins.

Your can of pumpkin puree is squash. Libby's grows and cans a tan, oblong variety from the butternut family and labels it 100% pure pumpkin. That's legal, and FDA has said so in writing since 1938. Their compliance guide tells canners the agency will not take action against the word pumpkin on anything made from golden fleshed, sweet squash. Pumpkin has no real botanical definition and it's a word for certain types of squash. The variety is called Dickinson, the same species as butternut, and Libby's grows it by the thousands of acres around its cannery in Morton, Illinois. Libby's makes about 85% of the canned pumpkin in the country and doesn't hide any of this. Nestle's own harvest release names the variety and says outright that pumpkin is a form of squash.

The cast was breaking so much during dress rehearsal that Lorne Michaels told Will Forte to do less dancing so that the sketch wouldn't completely fall apart. It didn't matter, you can see each actor, one by one, fail to hold it together. That's the power of Will Forte.

Over 10 years ago I downloaded a Flash file, consisting of a video and audio. Unfortunately, SWF is now dead. I've extracted the video and gotten the source file of the audio, and reconstructed them. The audio is already famous, but I wanted to restore the original meme format.
