My daughter works full time here in Texas. Let me run her numbers.
State minimum wage is $7.25. She's making $16.
Forty hours a week equals $640 weekly.
That’s roughly $2,700 a month before taxes.
Texas has no state income tax—the thing they sell you on. So after federal and FICA she takes home roughly $2,300.
Average one-bedroom in our city runs about $1,550.
That’s 67% of her entire paycheck gone to rent before she eats a single meal.
Leaves her around $750 a month for:
- groceries
- gas
- car insurance
- health insurance
- phone
- emergencies
- savings
Car insurance alone eats a huge chunk of that in this state.
She works 40 hours a week and cannot save a dollar. Not because she's careless because there's nothing left to be careless with.
I spent thirty years paying off a house here. She's doing the same job I did at her age and she can't afford a basic apartment.
That's not a discipline problem. That's not avocado toast.
The floor moved and nobody lowered the ceiling.
Working full time should cover a roof. In Texas it barely covers the rent on one.

Premier Ford faced tough questions on the alleged misuse of public money on the first day of the fall sitting.
Ford defended Stan Cho’s $22,500 pay bump.: "I fired him from being a minister. He admitted he made a mistake. He's paid it back, and now he's going to be a parliamentary assistant."
He also insisted his government was quick to act to stop "fraudsters" from exploiting the OSAP system

The Ford government knew.
For years, they received hundreds of tips warning that a handful of bad actors were abusing OSAP.
They did nothing. Instead of taking responsibility for their failure to act, they punished students.
Minister Quinn should resign. Ontario students should not be deprived of the support they need to complete their education.

Greens have warned the Ford government for years that Ontario can’t rely on the US to manage our waste.
Now, tariffs have backed Ford into a corner and his solution is to force landfills onto communities and burn our garbage, creating toxic air pollution for everyone.

On Thursday, Ontario's Finance Minister delivered his fall financial update.
He reported nearly $17 billion in new debt and worsening cuts to healthcare, education and colleges/universities, with no new supports for workers and families.
He's still planning for 401 tunnels, a relocated science centre, and lots of self-promotional advertising.
Too bad @fordnation's priorities aren't your priorities.

Ontario's Financial Accountability Officer FAO found hidden within Bethlenfalvy's 2023 budget a massive pool of excessive cash. By 2027, Bethlenfalvy will have diverted $22.6 billion from Ontario taxpayers, while the ghoulish Sylvia Jones cuts 2,500 nurses & 2,400 hospital beds.
NEW TODAY: The Ford government plans to spend billions more this year — but not on sectors that say they desperately need it, like health care and education.
Ontario’s fall economic statement sets aside $3.8 billion in a contingency fund, more than double what was budgeted in March, to provide "fiscal flexibility" amid ongoing economic uncertainty.
The province is also projecting a $16.9 billion deficit, and has pushed back its timeline to balance the books.

🚨BREAKING: The Republican Women’s Caucus Fund has been unmasked as the force behind the fake Texas Transgender Student Union (TTSU). This Wyoming LLC, formed in September, flooded as many as 3 million Texas mailboxes and phones with texts and brochures just as early voting began for the midterms.
Posing as a trans advocacy outfit, the materials—addressed to the children of registered voters—coached minors on seeking gender-affirming care even against parents’ wishes, pursuing emancipation, going out-of-state for hormones or surgery, and finding a “found family.” They copied branding from the real Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT) and used a near-identical address.
Legal filings named the Republican Women’s Caucus and “John Braun”—the name of a Washington state senator whose campaign treasurer, Paul Kilgore, also handles finances for the RWC Fund and PACs supporting Ken Paxton’s Senate bid against Democrat James Talarico. TTSU’s lawyer is former Paxton assistant AG Chris Hilton.
TENT sued, claiming harassment, threats, and operational harm. Judge Jan Soifer ordered disclosure, rejecting free-speech secrecy claims.
So, a Republican-linked group, with financial ties to Paxton-supporting PACs, mass-produced and distributed materials that impersonated a transgender student resource guide. In other words, the people who routinely accuse the transgender community of “indoctrinating” or targeting children, themselves produced and mailed the very content designed to look like that targeting—so parents would see it and react.
Every Republican accusation is a confession.
