Imagine the DMV was run like a hospital: 1. You would pay $1,200 a month for DMV insurance 2. The Uber ride to the DMV would cost $7,500 3. You would have to make an appointment to get your license renewed and the first available appointment would be six weeks in the future 4. You would be charged: $5,000 for your vision test $2,000 for the chair to sit in while doing the test $3,000 to get your picture taken $4,000 for a license processing fee $3,000 to print the license itself 5. You would get your license in the mail four weeks after going to the DMV. Except it wouldn't be your license, it would be someone else's 6. Two weeks after getting the wrong license, you would get a bill for #4 of $17,000 which your DMV insurance wouldn't cover because you hadn't met your deductible
Imagine your hospital being ran like the DMV... Sound good?

As many of you know, like @mattyglesias, I consider remote work a "cancer" I just got to my office a few minutes ago. Sure, it's a bit of a commute from my bedroom but at least there's a rest stop half way This is what productivity looks like. Who wants to have a meeting?

I agree with @mattyglesias that remote work is a "cancer." That's why I go into my office every day. It's in the back of my Airstream I'm in the office posting this right now while working on my Cold War history project @matthewstoller

"God tier"
I think the biggest fumble by the U.S. was not putting social security in the S&P 500. How did so few Americans benefit from the god tier economic growth our country created? Should've been the default.

Is he trying to make a joke?
Replying to @JoePostingg
The way I think of it is that people who have to go in every day tend to take steps to avoid having punishing commutes.

Weird dude doesn't understand accumulation and also appears to believe he will never get older
Worst. Generation. Ever. They’ve received more government benefits than any other generation and won’t leave without decimating public goods for everyone else.

Man who works remotely and enjoys it very much would like you to know that remote work is a cancer and you should get back to your cubicle at the insurance company
My strongest “vibes not evidence” belief is that remote work is a cancer that’s making (most) people miserable even though it seems better in the short term.

Bono on USAID: “General clues on evil, the abuse of children. I don’t know how many fatalities will eventually be attributed to the DOGE cuts. The Lancet, they suggest up to 2030, maybe 5M children under 5. Let’s say it’s only 20%, anyone of faith, anyone of conscience would allow the hemorrhaging of human life that is going to happen as a result of these DOGE cuts? It is unconscionable”

“What he [Elon Musk] put into the wood chipper were children”
Alex Gibney: “There was an estimate that what [Elon Musk] did by suddenly cutting USAID would cost through disease and starvation as many as 14M lives. Even if you discount that, we know within a year of those cuts where they were literally burning food going to starving children, 500K children died. This is really a crime against humanity, but he makes a joke about it, I put USAID into the woodchipper. What he put into the woodchipper were children”

Scum, all of them
EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk came to Donald Trump with the plan to throttle Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s Starshield satellite internet network, sources have told the Telegraph. The tech billionaire made the proposal during the US President’s row with Volodymyr Zelensky over strikes on Russian oil refineries. ‘The reality is that they were both in it,’ a senior source said of Musk’s and Trump’s involvement. But after a night of carnage in Kyiv caused by the slowdown, Musk was alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe. The SpaceX boss then proceeded to tweet, blaming the US administration, and ultimately, President Trump for authorising the slowdown. ‘He tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it,’ the source said.

Only extremely stupid people will be impressed by this blatantly infantile (and fraudulently misleading) Tesla ad. It's amazing that anyone would be impressed by this. This video only confirms how childish and moronic Musk is.

They are advertising for a human to do a job that their own software can supposedly do? This company is fraudulent and should be shut down.
Anthropic is offering a 145k salary for a personal assistant in London. Responsibilities include: "Scheduling and managing calendars for leader(s) and their organization" "Building and maintaining organizational systems for tracking and managing inbound requests" "Managing the leader's inbox and communications with precise attention to detail" "Handling travel logistics" Somebody should really build some sort of tech tool that can handle this stuff autonomously.

What boomers like me learned from the movies: 1. 2001, A Space Odyssey (1968): If you teach the computer to lie, it will kill you 2. Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970): Don't give a gun to a computer or it will kill you 3. Wargames (1983): Don't try and save money by replacing people with computers. Also don't give a gun to a computer or it will kill you What have the brogliarchs of Silicon Valley learned from the movies? Wall Street (1987): Greed is good American Psycho (2000): Fake it till you make it
