For those asking why I no longer believeβhere are the specific doctrines and difficulties I could no longer reconcile.
Subsitutionary atonement
The concept of eternal torment
The improbability of a resurrection or miracles
The hiddeness of god (mainly in my own life)
The lack of change in the lives of Christians
The problem of random, and unnecessary suffering
The lack of unity in Christianity
I am aware all Christians don't share the views on these, some don't even see issues.β¦. but I was raised evangelical Christian and they embrace or explain them away as part of their theology. The fact Christians don't agree is the last problem.
Please don't feel the need to give me a refresher course on the apologetics. I know those all too well.

I didn't leave Christianity angry either⦠one doubt lead to another, and another, and another. It never had sufficient answers for the deepest doubts.
I didn't leave Christianity angry. I left it after one small conversation with a friend about good and evil. One question I couldn't answer honestly, and it sent me questioning everything I had believed my whole life.
I did the research nobody wanted me to do. Now I write ebooks and share what I found, the evidence on the table.
And I want to connect. With skeptics who see it like I do. With believers who see it completely differently. With anyone still sitting in a pew quietly doubting and thinking they're the only one.
Follow along, reply, argue with me, ask me anything. I answer. Meaningful conversation with everyone is the whole point of this account.

We donβt need to imagine motives, only admit the facts. The fact is:
1) Trump grotesquely exploits religion for political gain
2) this gives him another photo op before midterms he can use to exploit religion for political gain
I donβt need imagination; you need denial π

Content penned by their god's hand: 0%
Content penned by men in the midst of a fever dream: 100%
The idea that this god used men as pens, giving them divine will/inspiration, is undeniably one of the funniest explanations ever given for a text's authorship.

Itβs often this concern that makes me think it may be bad to rip Christianity away from these people.
Monkeys donβt believe in god, and none of them do crazy things bc they are too busy living life and being monkeys. They donβt ponder their purpose: to be a monkey.
Belief related behavioral modifications are a very human problem that religion has brought to light.
Perhaps it would be different if they hadnβt been inundated with religious imagery and dogma all their life, but I am confident that if they learned the science to get to the point of apostasy, a significant proportion would go on violent rampages. They simply canβt handle their actual purpose: to be a human and live their life and let others live theirs π«£

Original Sin. Sodom and Gomorrah. The Flood. Egyptβs firstborn. Davidβs innocent infant son.
A biblical pattern: punishing the many for the sins of some, killing innocents rather than merely the guilty.
God kills Davidβs infant son because of Davidβs sin (2 Samuel 12:13β18).
Then God sacrifices his own innocent son for humanityβs sinsβthough an omnipotent God could simply forgive.
And we call this divine justice?

It would help me think of my opinion on your question if you provided an example of some action for which you think God punishes people.

Simping for billionaire oligarchs who don't give a tiny, dry, flaccid fuck about you is peak stupidity. Why are you defending an asshole whose boot is on your skinny neck? If that's your kink, fine. But it's deeply deranged, misplaced and delusional on your part.

I am not gonna give up the friendships and connections I built on here because of Elmo.
Besides I reject the premise that he owns the platform. I am of the belief that the users own it as it is them that make it worthwhile.

Amy Acton was nine when it started. By the time she was 12, her stepfather was arrested and charged. He fled with her mother and was a fugitive until his death.
He was guilty. She was a child.
It is breathtakingly horrific for Vivek to victim-blame a child 50 years later.
