Julia Louise Dreyfus starred in one of the least “politically correct” shows in recent memory, Veep. The thing was, the people that had the most to lose were not the punchline, it was the people in power that were the joke. They may have made fun of everyone else, but the laugh
Julia Louis-Dreyfus addresses Jerry Seinfeld’s comments about how political correctness is ruining comedy: “I think to have an antenna about sensitivities is not a bad thing. It doesn't mean that all comedy goes out the window as a result. When I hear people starting to complain about political correctness - and I understand why people might push back on it - but to me that's a red flag, because it sometimes means something else. I believe being aware of certain sensitivities is not a bad thing. I don't know how else to say it.” (nytimes.com/2024/06/08/magaz…)

Still thinking about all of I Saw the TV Glow from seeing it tonight and I won’t spoil it with big thoughts about the story arc or ending but I was also hit hard in the tiniest ways by the Fruitopia drink machine and a pouch of dust hitting a fire, 15/10 @sapphicspielbrg

Folks who haven't looked into the pricing structure of literally any cloud providers in the last 10 years be like: Like if you can, even once, correctly predict an AWS bill you've solved the Lament Configurum; Bezos appears full-pinhead to harvest your eyeballs

If you’re not a horror person but can deal with slightly darker sci-fi, you should give Coherence a try! I love introducing people to that movie.

“Await Further Instructions” really grew on me, didn’t have high expectations on the first watch but my recent rewatch was a strong craving

Just finished smoking a smol pork shoulder using lump charcoal for heat and a big chunk of wet ash wood from our backyard tree for flavor. Not sure I ever want to smoke with another wood again - it's so nutty/fruity while still letting the dry rub shine, fantastic subtle flavor

Important PSA follow-up: if you don't have ash wood in your very own *personal* backyard, please learn about the ash borer beetle and the very high risks around ash firewood, as the wood could inadvertently distribute the bugs that are trying to kill all the tasty ash trees

That said, you can regularly inoculate ash trees against ash borer beetles, which is more expensive than you'd hope, but it also helps protect any other surviving ash trees nearby. My backyard ash is basically an honorary family pet in my book, as my wife is painfully aware 😂

I’m so glad Zone of Interest won this sound Oscar. Can’t remember a movie that gets more out of its sound. It’s horrifyingly effective.
