Re: puppeteering → comic pipeline Poking at making each panel into its own 3D scene Move a character, change the camera, redraw the panel Eventually, the goal is to adapt these comics into animation, without having to build everything again
Been playing around with spatial animation tools + comic books for storyboarding, and this way of posing puppets has felt surprisingly fun

Been working on Kami. It's a cute talking customisable pocket computer Talk to it, use it as a digicam, mp3 player, for voice recordings on walks, even get it to create custom mini apps and games for you An excuse to leave your phone behind and a really fun colorful computer!

Big fan of the more directly-manipulating an intermediary approach xitter.cf/thesephist/status/2088…
I don't like that new tools are elevating a disengaged way of creating, like a boss who's too busy to care ("Just text your bot while out for a jog"). That we can do this now is amazing! But great work happens with our hands in the clay. The same tools can let us get deeper in.

After thinking a lot on this recently, I really think the world will end up more and more bimodal (s/o @maxbittker for that framing) On one end: you can go full throttle mold-man-to-machine, subsuming yourself to its mechanical, uncomfortable needs to do good industrial grade quantitative/logical work, or risk falling behind On the total other end, you can lean fully into the intuitive, deeply felt, and experiential. These have traditionally been artists, writers, painters, etc, but I've always found that distinction too narrow and limiting. I think Flow (in the original, beyond-productivity sense) is the closest thing here. This exists at high and low planes. More on this in an upcoming woolgather.sh issue. This may sound amish or woo-woo or naive (perhaps it is), but I assure you it's not, and in fact is imo the more comfortable and durable posture to hold. Ofc I've been humbled enough recently to not pretend like this will be entirely unaffected by machine intelligence of the future — but what you particularly experience, and your intrinsic enthrallment and self revelations, remain untouched even at the total crazy limit It's to say there is a solid, way more leisurely and full-bodied alternative to the machine crush Happy to chat about it/DMs open. I think it can sometimes be hard to have level-headed conversations on these topics, and/or feel awkwardly sci-fi/radical for trying to predict/assume/plan for the more extreme end of future conditions
You will have to merge your brain with future cognitive systems in order to remain at the edge of mathematical development. It took me 6 years to get over the depression that the existential crisis of this realization caused. Not crisis for loss of supremacy, crisis for the prediction of giving up all that I and my genetic history have ever known. This universe is so much bigger and stranger than what the collective human experience, and especially your personal entire life, has ever witnessed.

I was invited to test Opus 5.5. The differences at the high end are hard to notice unless you're being ambitious. They reward ambition though. If you can't tell the difference here, or if you're intentionally micro-prompting a model, I think the fast models (composer, Gemini flash, etc) are much better. Whenever I have to do that type of work, I switch to those. For models like Opus 5.5 though, I've been treating every problem as a Manhattan Project level organization of labor. There is a meteor heading towards the Earth and our only salvation is making this microcopy internally consistent. My prompts have been like: create a series of dimensions by which to assess quality / consistency, then generate images of every screen in my app, it them on a tldraw offline board, and analyze them in random groups, identifying problems and making fixes until every screen / group passes the threshold in every dimension. Get weird, get creative. Opus is a freak, it feels good to Opus, Opus likes it.
Opus 5.5 performs at the level of Fable 5.1. It's ~30% faster and ~40% cheaper than Opus 5 per task. In Claude Code: - 5-hour session limits increase 20% today - Opus 5.5 is priced lower, so it goes 25% further within limits - Pro, Max, and Team users get a reset to use anytime

You can read any graduate-level textbook in another domain by asking a coding agent to make you an interactive one Here's me learning neuroimaging using nested tooltips to recursively explain concepts and interactive widgets for "gears-level understanding"

The wooden laptop is getting a stand for use as external Mac display via @supermirror_app The wooden base is actually solid and the hinges strong enough that it can stand without this, but it’s nice to have it be unshakable. Proper introduction post for the whole thing coming soon
V2 of my wood laptop for the @daylightco is almost finished and it’s extremely satisfying absolutely unreasonable cost: 70€ just for the Japanese torque hinges, 10+ hours to compensate for my amateur craftsmanship and trial and error approach everything hand sawn, sanded, and screwed it’s so fun building my own computer.

I have been listening to Prodigy, big beat, and techno my entire life. Yousuke mixing Empirion’s Firestarter remix with Kulikitaka is an insane combination. Bro is mixing oil with water. And it’s possibly the best key change mix I’ve ever heard in my life. Both of these songs are from over 20 years ago btw.
