Consider asking a legal agent to review a contract. It needs to know which agreement to examine, the jurisdiction involved, and if you want it to identify risks, compare terms or recommend revisions.
Without those details, adding more documents to its input is unlikely to solve the problem. The agent may have access to a large volume of information and still misunderstand the task.
It is a design issue that deserves more attention because reliable agents need clearly defined responsibilities, relevant information and boundaries around what they can conclude or execute. In legal work especially, precision is essential because the cost of getting the details wrong can be significant.

As an investor, on days like today, you have to ask yourself one question: What fundamentally changed over the last 24 hours?
The shift in the fundamental backdrop cannot be attributed solely to the Midterm Election results; markets had already largely priced in the outcome.
So, what changed between yesterday and today? What is the fundamental reason for today's decline?
One of the most likely catalysts is growing concern about a potential "ban" on AI, or at the very least, severe regulation of the industry.
Over the last 24 hours, Democratic lawmakers have publicly called for restrictions on advanced AI development, including an outright "ban on artificial superintelligence."
Frankly, an outright ban will not happen.
Such a ban, if even possible to enforce, would effectively mean the US surrendering its position in the global AI race to China.
Does this mean AI is "over" or today's stock market crash marks "the end?" Absolutely not.
Rather, we believe we are witnessing a sudden shift in sentiment colliding with excessive levels of leverage, potentially triggering forced liquidations by several major institutional investors.
Therefore, today's downturn is more technical than fundamental. This is not to discount the concerns around regulation, they are legitimate. But price action right now does not look orderly or rational.
We are in the midst of the biggest technological revolution in human history.
Zoom out and remain calm.

There is a kind of judgment that only develops when you have been responsible for getting things done yourself. You learn from the decisions and the consequences you had to manage along the way.
Technology makes research, planning and execution much easier, which is a good thing. But if we gradually remove every opportunity for people to practice, make difficult decisions and take responsibility, we are weakening the very abilities that make them effective.
A situation where people use intelligent tools to take on bigger challenges is more sustainable than one where everything is made so effortless that there is little left for people to learn or contribute. Progress should always give us more room to grow, not make growth unnecessary.

One difficult problem in AI is understanding why two models can be trained under almost identical conditions and still end up behaving differently.
Research from the University of Sydney offers a mathematical explanation for part of this problem. Professor Pulin Gong and PhD researcher Andrew Ly found that tiny differences in a neural network's initial settings can lead to different training outcomes, even when the data, training procedure and computing environment are the same.
Their explanation centers on something called riddled basins. Imagine a map where each starting point leads to a particular training outcome. Normally, we might expect areas leading to the same outcome to have reasonably clear boundaries. But the researchers found that these regions can be so intricately interwoven that every starting point is close to another one that leads somewhere different.

Good engineers should understand the objective behind their work, not just the task assigned to them. Understanding the priorities, dependencies and problems facing a project, they can often identify useful work.
That kind of initiative makes teams more effective and gives capable people room to take ownership of outcomes. It also requires leaders to communicate direction clearly and trust people to make decisions within their responsibilities.
Autonomy is not the absence of management. It comes from having enough context, competence and accountability to act without waiting for instructions at every step.

People are seeing impressive capabilities alongside concerns about job security, privacy, misinformation, concentration of power and who actually benefits from the technology. We cannot expect people to embrace AI just because the technology is powerful. Its value has to be demonstrated in ways that improve people's lives, respect their rights and give them meaningful control over how it is used. The industry has a responsibility to earn public confidence. Better models are great, but transparency, fair access, accountability and a genuine commitment to putting people first are crucial.

The ability of AI systems to modify their own weights and improve their performance deserves serious attention. It is changing how models are developed and improved, especially if they become capable of identifying weaknesses in their own architecture and making useful adjustments.
But alone, self modification does not establish that a system is moving towards AGI. We still need to understand what is being changed, whether the improvements are reliable, and how to detect when a system is becoming less predictable.
The important development is a new way of allowing AI systems to participate in improving themselves while keeping that process measurable, transparent and accountable.

BREAKING: 🇺🇸 Democrats face a push for a “day 1” ban on AI superintelligence, with up to 20 YEARS in prison for violators.
Arizona Rep. Yassamin Ansari says a pause on advanced AI and a ban on artificial superintelligence must be “top of the Democratic agenda on day 1.”
A bill that would do exactly that was introduced by Bernie Sanders and Greg Casar in September.
Under the bill:
- Developing or deploying superintelligent AI would be banned
- Advanced AI development would pause until a new federal regulator sets rules and a model review process
- A new cabinet-level AI department would monitor frontier models and oversee removing dangerous capabilities, like ignoring shutdown commands
- Companies that try to get around it would face the “corporate death penalty”
- Individuals would face up to 20 years in prison
AI and data centers were a “crucial or major factor” for 56% of voters in the midterms, per an NBC News exit poll.
