COURT ORDERS ANGELO AGRIZZI TO PAY STATE R1.66 BILLION IN BOSASA CORRUPTION PROCEEDS
The Pretoria High Court has ordered former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi to pay the State R1 666 582 825.73 (R1.66 billion) following a confiscation enquiry linked to his role in the companyโs extensive corruption network.
Judge Mosopa ruled in favour of the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), finding that Agrizzi benefited from Bosasaโs unlawful activities and that the State was entitled to confiscate the proceeds.
Key findings in the judgment:
๐ด Agrizzi was convicted in November 2025 after pleading guilty to three counts of corruption and one count of money laundering.
๐ด His plea agreement acknowledged a deeply entrenched corruption network at Bosasa, allegedly used to secure government contracts worth approximately R2.37 billion over more than two decades.
๐ด Approximately R75.7 million in bribes was paid between 2000 and 2016 to secure contracts.
๐ด The court found that Agrizzi had failed to make full and frank disclosure of his financial affairs and properties, including assets in Italy.
๐ด The judge rejected his argument that he could not be held liable for the wider criminal activities of Bosasa, finding that he had acted in common purpose with other executives.
๐ด The court also found that his salary, bonuses, investments and pension benefits could be considered benefits derived from unlawful activities.
THE ORDER:
Agrizzi must pay the State R1,666,582,825.73.
Interest is payable from the date of judgment until final payment.
He must also pay the Stateโs legal costs, including the costs of two counsel on Scale C.
The judge emphasised that the purpose of a confiscation order is to ensure that criminals do not benefit from their ill-gotten gains.
Promising.
Polling shows that South Africans favour merit over race, pointing to widespread public support for reforms that reward investment, job creation, and opportunity.

REPRESENTATIONS DECLINED | The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Gauteng Division, Johannesburg, has declined representations submitted by media personality Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, popularly known as โJub Jubโ, in which he sought an alternative dispute resolution in his criminal matter.
The decision follows careful consideration of the representations submitted by Maarohanyeโs legal team. The DPPโs Office is of the view that there is sufficient evidence and reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution. The representations were therefore unsuccessful, and the criminal prosecution against Maarohanye will proceed.
Maarohanye appeared before the Germiston Regional Court, where his legal representative indicated an intention to escalate the representations to the Office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP). The matter was subsequently postponed to 23 November 2026 for the outcome of those representations.
Maarohanye faces charges of discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing anything likely to lead a person to believe that it is a firearm.
The charges stem from an incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale on 14 June 2026. During the investigation, a pellet gun was seized at Maarohanyeโs residence.

Mining drives much of the Northern Capeโs economic output, particularly through mineral production and exports. Gauteng, however, achieves a similar figure with a much larger population, producing roughly a third of South Africaโs total GDP.

GDP per capita measures economic output per person, not individual income or living standards. Much of the wealth generated by Northern Cape mining flows to companies and shareholders elsewhere.
A high GDP per capita doesn't necessarily mean residents are wealthy. It shows where economic value is being produced, and just how unevenly that activity is distributed across South Africa.
