Heritage Minister @pablorodriguez and the government have even lost @TorontoStar on Bill C-11: Editorial board calls for changes, expressing concerns with regulating user content, lack of transparency, and the effort to pass the bill without full debate.

Grateful for support over past 24 hours, but still struggling with how my calls for a comment from Heritage Minister @pablorodriguez on govt funding an anti-semite led to excuse it isn’t his file and to his Parliamentary Secretary suggesting I’m racist.

This neither acknowledges implying @mgeist is a racist or our govt continuing to employ someone with long term public record of extremist statements calling for violence and worse against Jewish people - in the capacity of an anti-racist instructor. @jonkay
Yesterday, in a moment of anger, I made an implication about @mgeist that was unfounded and inappropriate. I hold myself to a higher standard for the office that I hold and I apologize to Professor Geist. I have deleted the offending tweet.

Most notable exchange with CRTC Chair on Bill C-11:
Asked by @mivillej to provide specific examples about how discoverability would work if not with algorithms, he responded platforms would have to meet outcomes. How? By manipulating algorithms.
teapawt.org/mgeist/status/15397620…
For months, @pablorodriguez and the government claimed that algorithmic manipulation was out of Bill C-11. Someone forgot to the tell the CRTC. Chair Ian Scott just confirmed it could ask platforms to manipulate their algorithms to achieve discoverability outcome.
He created an ode to joy. @theDarcyMichael on @TikTok. The Audience Lab Podcast @TheCreativeSchl @TorontoMet: Mediaucracy series.

“It’s been made quite clear to the Trudeau government that there will be a diligent and thorough study of this flawed legislation; one that will be done transparently and will include witnesses whose voices and concerns were silenced in the other place.”

This is what @pablorodriguez and the government thought was appropriate democratic review of Bill C-11 amendments last night. This went on for hours: just amendment number and vote. No discussion, debate, questions, or disclosure of amendment content.

I also watched “the sausage being made.” Fell asleep. Is it “fully cooked?”
Heritage committee enters the 4th hour of voting on Bill C-11 clauses and amendments with no debate or public disclosure of the text. Now past midnight ET. Astonishing betrayal of democratic norms by @pablorodriguez and the government who demanded this approach.

We all have the same goal of seeing 🇨🇦 digital creators thrive, but #C11 isn't the right toolkit to achieve that. Let's instead work together to help all creators - digital, traditional and everyone in between - harness the power of 🌍 platforms to reach new audiences. 9/9

Last week, @TikTokCanada provided a written briefing on Bill #C11 to the Committee on Canadian Heritage. We all want to see Canadian creators thrive, and we've shared our thoughts on how we can #FixC11 to achieve that. TL;DR👇 1/9 #CHPC #cdnpoli newsroom.tiktok.com/en-ca/bi…
#4/10: Fabulous line (of many) in @CarttCa by LenSt-Aubin, on the policy team that wrote the 1991 Broadcasting Act : "Bill C-11 favours the burden of regulated demand over the success of market-based demand. It is appallingly out of touch." cartt.ca/commentary-a-reply-…

Tweet #2/10. May I coin a new word, GLATIONAL: public policy informed by mastery of global dynamics? I get both sides' pain. C-11 chaos seems attributable to lack of understanding. GLATIONAL seems missing from some perspectives. Knowledge is power. Its opposite: fear of unknown.
