Text reads: Dear Professor Corner and Goldsmiths Senior Management Team We are writing to convey the profound opposition of Oxford UCU members to the ongoing Transformation Programme at Goldsmiths College, and to urge you, as the Warden and Senior Management Team, to reverse the proposed 97 redundancies immediately. At our recent Annual General Meeting, 9th July 2024, Oxford UCU members voted overwhelmingly in support of solidarity motion with Goldsmiths UCU in the face of the devastating and unwarranted cuts which you all seem determined to inflict upon the college. As you know, Goldsmiths UCU has conducted independent research which shows that the £10.1 million already saved through redundancy mitigation measures means that there is no financial justification for the redundancies.”

ALT Text continues: On the contrary, viewed even in the narrowest of economic terms, the cuts will damage the college’s ability to secure new revenue streams, forcing the institution further into decline. Goldsmiths College has world-renowned departments in English and creative writing, history, music, psychology, sociology, theatre and performance and visual cultures. Oxford UCU members are appalled that our colleagues in these subjects, often at the cutting edge of their respective fields, will soon be made jobless. Many University of Oxford staff and students have already added their names to petitions to save the innovative Goldsmiths MAs in Black British History, Black British Literature. Indeed, it should be clear that every job lost under your watch is an entirely preventable calamity, both for the staff and students affected, and for the wider British Higher Education sector. Yours sincerely, Oxford UCU committee 2023-24
