According to the 2025 National Fitness Survey by the General Administration of Sport of China, 69.1% of people aged 7 and above participate in physical activity at least once a week, and 39.8% exercise regularly. Nighttime (6–10 PM) has become a peak period for workouts, especially in cities where this window accounts for over 40% of daily exercise activity.
In Shanghai alone, there are over 800,000 regular night runners, and the city has built more than 496 kilometers of fitness trails to support this habit. Many public parks and sports facilities also extend their opening hours into the evening, making it easier for people to stay active after work.
For millions of Chinese families, post-dinner walks or runs are not just about exercise—they’re a way to relax, socialize, and enjoy the cool evening air together.
