What sets ancient man apart from modern man is his ability to face endless tragedy without being crushed by it.

I became Uganda's first wildlife veterinarian in 1996, there were only about 650 mountain gorillas left in the world.
Today, there are over 1,063.
We are proud to have contributed to this positive growth trend though our #OneHealth approach to conservation. One of my first cases as the first Veterinary Officer of @ugwildlife was a scabies outbreak in the mountain gorillas. I learned that we cannot protect gorillas without caring for the people who live next to them.
Through
@CTPHuganda we started to Improve health care for families around Bwindi, so diseases like scabies don't pass from people to gorillas.
We train Village Health and Conservation Teams and Gorilla Guardians to monitor both human and gorilla health. We also help communities find livelihoods like Gorilla Conservation Coffee, so the forest becomes a benefit, not a burden. When communities are healthy, gorillas are healthy. That is One Health.
I am humbled to be named a Top 5
@CNN Hero for this work. The winner is decided by your vote.
Please vote at: CNN.com/Heroes 10 votes every day until November 29th.
Thank you for protecting the mountain gorillas and supporting the local communities with us.

Your Majesty Ssaabasajja Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II,
I am writing to you with a heart overflowing with joy, gratitude, and profound humility following our meeting at the Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
Your Majesty, the extraordinary gesture you extended in welcoming and greeting me personally during the Masaza Cup Finals was a moment of immense honor & privilege that I will forever cherish.
To witness your radiant smile, your vitality, and your deep love as you stood before your subjects brought an indescribable wave of happiness not just to me, but to all of Buganda and Uganda.
Your presence at Wankulukuku was a powerful testament to your enduring strength and an anchor of unity for your people. As a loyal subject, seeing you grace the kingdom with such warmth and grace fills me with renewed hope and pride.
I pray that the Almighty God continues to bless Your Majesty with abundant health, divine protection, and a long, peaceful reign.
Awangaale Sabasajja Kabaka! Magulu Nnyondo!

Habeas corpus was the master key to any cell door of illegal detention. Then soldiers dragged CJ Benedicto Kiwanuka from his court in 1972, after he freed Daniel Stewart. The incident haunts Judges to this day.
The master key has now rusted.
Another seminal paper by @EronKiiza
Uganda has one of strongest habeas Corpus guarantees in the common wealth, writes Lawyer @kiizaeron.
Yet in practice, the writ of habeas corpus is in trouble.

When you expel a student, you’re in essence uprooting a tree in its entirety; there’s no guarantee it will still grow if replanted in another kind of soil elsewhere. Many kids never recover from expulsions. Those expulsions are often as good as a death sentence because their lives have effectively ended, and from then on, they are a case of the walking dead, writes @gawayategulle.

Call me whatever you want, but I believe a society's goal should be to secure the highest quality of life and happiness for its citizens, not to endlessly generate capital for the ownership class at everyone else's expense.

Replying to @PunchyMoney
Long, fake nails. Especially the kind with designs or rhinestones glued on them.
People keep inviting governments into every affair of their lives, from banning fresher’s balls to regulating prom
Parties to defining morality etc , the cost you will pay for stupidity is going to be losing all your liberties.

One of the quickest paths to destabilizing societies is to use nostalgia. The longing for a past where things were ‘apparently’ okay.
It’s now being used to target young people who have no recollection or were not alive to understand the circumstances .
