'To have legislation is not at all the same as to have the state of affairs that the legislation claims to achieve. It is easier to campaign for tangible objectives, such as the vote than to fight to eradicate the prejudice underpinning the initial denial.'

She’s beautiful! So glad she has the cover! They look so good together! (Thank God it’s not more Harkles propaganda!)

This isn't about slavery at all
If it was, these campaigners would be fighting for the millions of Africans in MODERN slavery
This is a cash grab by the Caribbean and an attack on Britain & The West by activists
No one today is a victim of Britain's slave trade

What I'd like to hear the King say.
"The transatlantic slave trade was a shameful period of history, but history is where it belongs. Britain didn't invent the trade, but she did end it, costing the lives of 2000 Royal Navy sailors. We have already made amends."

❤️ My beautiful boy deserves to be remembered with love, not hate.
Yesterday, a Coventry fan used a photograph of Bradley to taunt Sunderland supporters. As his mam, this breaks my heart. Behind that photo is a little boy who was loved beyond measure (pt 1)

I’m fed up with the relentless attempts to portray Britain & its Empire as an unmitigated force for evil. It was not. Britain led the way in abolishing the slave trade & slavery across its Empire, setting an example that other nations followed.
Where does this retrospective blame game end? Shall we sue the French for the Norman Conquest of 1066? Or demand that the Americans compensate us for the tea destroyed in Boston Harbour? Should India pay us for its railway?

The financial reparations debate is absurd. The UK government has already transferred roughly £100 billion - £150 billion in aid to Commonwealth countries over the past 80 years.
Replying to @chrisshipitv
The power to replace the king with a president lies entirely in the hands of the respective governments and their peoples. If that’s what they want they should get on with it rather than constantly saying that’s what they want. UK has nothing to do with it.

UK, i dunno how to tell you this kindly, but stop. just stop. you got serious issues happening now on your doorstep, impacting you people now. 300 yrs ago the trade was not illegal, and africa are still trading their own! concentrate closer to home. stop saying sorry

As the King faces one of the most explosive @commonwealthsec heads of government meetings in decades following the British PM’s decision to open up the conversation over slavery - supercharging calls for reparations - on the eve of the gathering, he and the Queen will be attending church together in Antigua this morning, where a very warm and musical welcome awaits them.

If any country wants an apology and some cash on the backs of their ancestors slavery, I suggest you contract one of your historians to locate the names of the rich and powerful families who participated in the slave trade and get your apology and cash from them.
My ancestors were dirt poor. Dirt, as in they were literally deep in the ground scraping coal with bare hands and a little primitive tool.
Good luck in your search for the real criminals. The poor and the working class are not and never were your enemy.
