Wild to me to remember how much Bloom County I read as a kid. Hundreds and hundreds of strips with punchlines built around Caspar Weinberger and tight-money Fed policy, no Wikipedia to look any of it up. Just cheerily marinating in Reagan-era gibberish

We can push to vaccinate the world this summer because it's the right thing to do, or because it's the most ridiculously cost-effective way of building American "soft power" we'll likely ever see. Whatever motive works is fine with me.

Whatever the State Department and CIA propaganda budget is for the next year, it should be diverted 99.9% to vaccine production, and 0.01% to painting big American flags on the crates of vaccine

This is one of my favorite displays of human nature. We built fantasy software that lets you fly anywhere, and people are using it to roleplay the highly restrictive world of commercial aviation, for free. All modern hobbies specialize to become unpaid work. Fun is for noobs

Of course, the Times recognizes that what’s happening at DOJ is important. It’s writing about it! It’s just using unclear, obfuscatory language. It can’t bluntly and honestly describe what’s happening, and why it matters. Journalistic norms have given partisans a veto over truth.

First three images: how the NYT covered a single brief meeting between the ex-president spouse of a presidential candidate and the AG.
Last image: how it’s covering an overt, years-long campaign by the AG to control investigations and prosecutions for the president’s benefit.

I’m sure many people have said this, but I haven’t seen anything about it. Why isn’t there a set of TV channels available nationwide by September that has school curriculum taught all day with simple scheduling? It would be more accessible than everyone needing a computer + wifi.

If only we were living through some unique moment in history teaching us the importance of universal health care and a strong social safety net. Maybe next time!

This is journalistic malpractice, a naked and unquestioning endorsement of military escalation that obliterates context or understanding. It would make more sense in a Verhoeven satire than the real world, but here we are, in hell.
