I have to give a huge shout out and thank you to @SimpliFaster @johndelf99 for featuring our facility. All the video work and editing was handled by our one and only @davisfrankw . @tjkelly17 @SaralandSchools @Superd3k
“I wanted the room to be able to flow well & take advantage of having access to our covered turf to incorporate sprints, jumps, and medicine ball throws." 🔷 @jonhersel opens the doors to the Saraland HS weight room & gives @johndelf99 a virtual tour ⤵️ simplifaster.com/articles/fa…

I’m still convinced eRFD in deceleration is the most trainable quality to reduce the likelihood of an ACL tear. Altitude drop Stick the landing on horizontal jumps Sprint maximally That’s going to build high eRFD in every muscle that surrounds the knee, hip, and ankle joint.

My FTC Podcast with Brian Kula has generated tons of feedback, especially concerning hamstring & Achilles injuries. This is what Boo Schexnayder says about Nordics and RDLs: “The hamstrings are built to accept fast eccentric loading (sprinting), so Nordics and RDL’s make things worse by fatiguing the area with no hope for progress.” He follows it immediately with: “The answer to hamstring health is simple: teach mechanics, value mobility (over max strength), and sprint year-round.” 🤔 His larger point is provocative: hamstring weakness is usually not the primary cause of hamstring injuries, so simply adding more isolated hamstring strengthening may add fatigue without addressing the underlying problem. youtu.be/jVhC_Ty0Utk?is=dSsi…

Wide receivers are best at the NFL Combine, averaging 10’2”. This kid went 11’0.5” 😳 Train athleticism without detraining athleticism.
11 feet, half an inch. From a dead stop. Here's what that actually costs: → 821 lbs into the floor. 4.4x his bodyweight, in a 0.22 second push. → Leaves the ground at 10.6 mph on a 42° launch. → 0.73 seconds of air. Hips climb 20 inches. → 1,307 lbs absorbed on the landing. 7.1x bodyweight, in 0.15 seconds. The jump is already won before he leaves the floor. Watch the dip — hips drop, arms swing back, and everything loads at once. Triple extension just cashes the check. Most guys lose this jump in two places: they dip too slow, and they land with their feet under them instead of out in front. Fix those and you find a foot. Full physics breakdown → thespeeddoctor.app

I once asked an AT "can you please regress this back squat for this athlete. He has AC pain so he can't have a bar on his back" In a fully equipped D1 level weight room with endless options, she blessed this athlete with a bodyweight squat on an inverted bosu ball..... Then promptly got a job with a power 5 team. Yay American sports.
Thinking about the time an AT was fighting with myself and my S&C colleagues because she thought goblet squatting was more stressful than sprinting for a sprained ankle.

One thing parents and most coaches DO NOT UNDERSTAND is the next statement. Legit HS Football Players ARE as fast and explosive at NFL Players. They are not the size YET (it will come!), and they do NOT play as fast. This is my goal the next decade.

I coached football for 20 yrs both college & HS. Every 1st day of practice, "They're dying. We're not 'in shape'." You can run 20 110's for time, 40 40s, whatever. They're in trouble 1st day. You get in shape by playing the sport. Try to mimick the sport in conditioning – at Trussville, AL

Every high school football team in America will soon begin their summer workouts. I’m here to discourage as many coaches as I can from having their players run 20 110s as I possibly can. Player health > “We’ve always done this”

I’m not a “you have to play multiple sports” guy at all. I’m a “do what you want to do and enjoy 1 sport or 5 sports” guy…what do you and your parents think is best. BUT let me leave these for those adults pushing kids to give up sports they WANT to play in and focus on one sport to “play at the next level”. I got news for you. 98% of you are still going to be paying for college or getting academic scholarships. So play the sports you enjoy in high school. Stop listening to the fake noise. Be a kid and enjoy it. Anyone telling you different has a motive behind it. ESPECIALLY if you pay those people for their services. Just sayin….
