2025 has been a wild ride, so far, I've survived. Here are some highlights of the things that I made, worked on, or was a part of.
I'll have more tricks, flicks and animation survival tactics in 2026.
Happy Holidays ya filthy animals! 🌲☃️💫

Que raro que a la gente no le cae el 20 que CD projekt red no son dueños del concepto de Cyberpunk y que abarca un montón de cosas. Mantener "el lore" es una cosa, pero decir que lo que proponen no es cyberpunk ahahaha que pedo
Studio Trigger’s novel ideas for Cyberpunk as a setting are usually incredibly stupid and make it worse not better. CDProjekt Red would never write something as stupid as the Cyberskeleton or Project Capricorn, and it is excessively obvious that these things were just barely over the threshold of what CDPR would tolerate.

Every credible report indicates that millions will die if we don't dramatically alter our climate path. We are already seeing tens of thousands every year. Cities are being burned to the ground right here in Canada. The government of Canada's own reports show that we will
British Columbia is central to building a more prosperous Canada.
This afternoon, Premier-designate @LDoerkson and I discussed how we can seize major economic opportunities across the province, build out infrastructure, and unlock our full potential as an energy superpower.
Building British Columbia and Canada strong, for all.

Al Pacino says he passed out with COVID in his apartment, woke up to five paramedics in his living room, and was told his pulse had stopped
"I felt I left the Earth when I passed out."
"Next thing I know, I open my eyes and there's five paramedics in my living room."
"And they were my doctors, but I couldn't recognize them from head to toe."
"But they said, my pulse had stopped."
The last thing he remembers is asking the name of the guy filling him up with fluids. Then he wakes up to two doctors in what looked like space suits, and his first thought is that it looks like a film set. Fifty years in front of cameras will do that.

Whales are climate heroes — who release enormous amounts of waste into ocean that is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, that nourish phytoplankton, which in turn release oxygen into the atmosphere while absorbing climate-warming c02 through photosynthesis

“Do you understand who you are dealing with? This is America. Back up.”
A United Nations meeting was dramatically suspended yesterday after US ambassador Mike Waltz and Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla both ignored the chair’s plea for order in the chamber.
The problem started when Waltz blamed Cubans for the shocking US embargoes and blockades that are causing huge suffering to the people of the island.
Cuban representatives, astonished at the way Waltz blamed the victims for the crisis, in their eyes, stood up and objected, citing Rule 71, which allows listeners to raise a point of order.
Ambassador Waltz responded that the Cubans didn’t like the substance of his speech, so were not raising a point of order.
But when complaints continued, this caused Ambassador Waltz to lose his temper and shout “Back up! Back away. Do you understand what you’re dealing with? This is America.”
.
INTERNATIONAL TERRITORY
The rest of the United Nations was outraged by this attitude, as the UN building is legally international territory.
When Waltz refused to stop his tirade, Khalilur Rahman, chair of the 81st session, ordered that the meeting be instantly suspended. Waltz ignored him.
The meeting was then resumed, but footage of the argument created a huge storm on social media.
Some people in the US defended Waltz’s narrative, blaming Cubans for the suffering caused by the US embargos.
But much of the commentary from the rest of the world said that the United Nations, for the safety of the delegates and the organization itself, should no longer be situated in New York.
When New York was originally chosen as the site, the US pledged not to politicize US visa access to meetings—but has regularly broken the pledge, such as refusing to allow visas for Palestinians.

The more infections occur, the faster evolution takes place for pathogens. I've talked with a number of very knowledgeable people that have noted that the high degree of air travel/interconnectedness puts us in a new domain in this regard than previous history. UVC, masking and clean room air (both outdoor air and filtered) are an important way to multiply the efforts of the biologists. It's not clear that they will be able to keep up or ever outstrip the sum of the evolution of all pathogens without this multiplier, imo. And it's pretty cheap and reliable.
In the end, as usual, the most powerful trick is the optimal blend of all the different approaches, and this is true all the way down. In the room air department for instance I would not lean exclusively on UVC masking or filtration. But in like manner, even at the top level of preventing transmissible disease (which is arguably not the top level, but rather happiness would be), I honestly think there is a bit of an overemphasis on biotech. It's very tempting to have something that works for long periods with no continued costs, but if we look at how things went with Covid-19, we have been having a terrible time making one really good vaccine for even one disease.
Unfortunately I think it's going to be quite along time before being here and being in a place where we have a broad range of extremely good vaccines, is going to be bridged. There are a lot of severe barriers, for example experimenting on fully healthy people for prevention is very difficult. But maybe the biology wizards will surprise us, that would be awesome.
For anyone getting into biology, please consider taking airborne disease resistance more seriously.
It's a super important area of medicine that is a huge cause of death and sickness but easily gets forgotten. We're likely to get many more airborne plagues in the future due to the combination of not just extremely dense and interconnected society (including city and farm animals), but also accidents from bio research and offensive biotech (both from random people and from secret government programs that can easily get themselves exempted from safety restrictions), all enhanced by powerful AI.
Right now, this area is getting way less love than longevity research (which continues to be super important!), but it's an area where there are lots of unclaimed wins that we know exactly how to do (but are not yet doing) with present-day tech:
* early detection
* passive universal testing
* filtration/ventilation/UVC
* better vaccines (including making them open source and open science)
* cryptography to make all of the above privacy-preserving
We can have China-level pandemic resistance with Sweden-level limited intrusion into people's lives, and then go even further. We just have to actually do the work for it.
