Jamie Dimon on complex perspectives:
JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon pushes back after being asked why America’s CEOs are afraid to criticize President Trump: “I’ve said what I think. What the hell else do you want me to say?” 🇺🇸 Interviewer: “I’m genuinely struck by the unwillingness of CEOs in America to say anything critical. There’s a climate of fear in your country. Would you agree with that?” Jamie Dimon: “The Davos intellectual elite. I’ve been coming to Davos all these years, listening to chatter and stuff like that. Has it done a good job making the world a better place? We get together and talk. What do you want me to do? I have strong views. Some of the things Trump has done are good, and some are not. I’m not a tariff guy. Do I use it in certain cases? Yes. I think they should change their approach to immigration. I’ve said it. What the hell else do you want me to say? I’m trying to have a conversation.”

The US junk bond market is under severe pressure: The effective yield on US CCC-rated and lower-rated high-yield corporate bonds is up to 18.0%, its highest level since the 2020 pandemic. This figure has surged +500 basis points over the last 6 months, marking its largest 6-month increase since the 2022 bear market. For perspective, this yield peaked at 45.0% during the 2008 Financial Crisis. Meanwhile, credit spreads for CCC-rated and lower corporate bonds over Treasuries are up to 13.4%, the widest gap since July 2020. Over the last 6 months, this gauge has risen +464 basis points, surpassing the 2022 bear market peak of 12.8%. Cracks are widening beneath the surface of the credit market.

Is the Trump Administration trying to talk down oil prices ahead of an escalation of hostilities?
🚨 US strikes on Iran are now "no longer a question of if, but when," with Trump ready to "shift gears on Iran," per a US official to i24NEWS

President Trump, his administration, & their affiliates claim that oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz have fully resumed. Bearish biased analysts echo this. However, this is inconsistent with the attacks on tankers, elevated oil prices and other indicators. I asked @Grok:

Security Alert: U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia (October 25, 2026) Effective October 23, 2026, the Department of State ordered non-emergency U.S. government employees and U.S. government employee family members to leave Saudi Arabia due to safety risks. Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions. The hostilities have the potential to escalate rapidly beyond that immediate area. U.S. government employees working in Saudi Arabia require special authorization from Chief of Mission to use any airport in Saudi Arabia following recent missile and UAV attacks on airports in the Kingdom. King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh announced a partial reopening as of October 25 for domestic flights and some international flights operated by national carriers. A limited number of flights normally based at RUH are operating out of Qassim-based Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz International Airport (ELQ). Operations at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah (JED) are operational with some delays and cancellations. Operations at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam (DMM) are operational with some delays and cancellations. U.S. citizens should be aware of potential attacks on airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and travel disruptions.  Please take extreme caution if you choose to use airports in Saudi Arabia.  We recommend checking your flight departure status directly with the airline and with the airport. On the bright side, the failure to maintain investment for an eventual Iranian conflict has left us more upside. The scale of this damage will take years to recover from. What that looks like who knows.

This seems to contradict claims by the Trump administration and certain media outlets that more oil is flowing through the Strait of Hormuz now than before the war. Unless they are counting the oil spilling from damaged tankers!
Despite Iran’s efforts to disrupt energy shipments, oil exports from the Persian Gulf are roaring back and have surpassed pre-conflict levels. The message is clear: Iran’s threats have failed to stop the flow of energy to global markets.
