When you form your startup
The most impactful thing you can do is put a chunk of your equity into a Roth IRA
It used to be expensive/total pain in the ass
I chat with Sunil, CEO of AnchorZero, about how he made founder Roth IRA's easy and inexpensive

Quick Guide to Startup Formation:
Formation: Clerky or Stripe Atlas
AI Usage: Use AI to make minor tweaks to vetted forms, not to draft agreements from scratch
Once you start issuing option grants or running 409A valuations or raise outside capital, it's probably time to talk to a lawyer
Additional Tax Planning Considerations:
QSBS Trust Stacking
Peter Thiel style Roth IRA
(Best to do these as early as possible)

Continuing my anti-dilution series for founders -
I asked my Venture Debt lawyer (Mitch McClellan) to respond to Erick Bruckner's banger tweet about how for hard tech founders the "sexiest round will eventually be the one where founders sell zero equity."

Every year on 9/11 I take the kids to ground zero to write down names engraved in the memorial. Then we go home and look them up to talk about their stories. Today, my youngest was writing a name when a woman walked up and asked her what she was doing. When she explained, the woman gently asked “will you write down my son’s name too?” We spent the next few minutes talking to Morton Frank’s mother about his life. He was 31. When I asked her how she was holding up on the 25th anniversary she teared up and said, “same as every other day.” #neverforget

Every year on or right before 9/11, we show this video to our students. It’s not only powerful story-telling, it’s a reminder to a younger generation about how life altering 9/11 was for those of us who lived it. It’s only 10 min #themanintheredbandana

NYS/C is already extremely good at levying taxes and fees. Congestion pricing didn't prove anything in that respect. What NYS/C are not good at, is actual competent management. So we still have multiple food carts on every major block spewing generator exhaust 18 hours a day. We still have the ice cream trucks on every major corner running on diesel 18 hours a day (often blocking crosswalks). And we've done nothing to improve the routing of traffic around (not through) Manhattan. I think congestion pricing has had marginal benefits. But transformative? Nope.
Congestion Pricing hasn’t changed much about NYC’s air quality, city report finds

Good Lord, people. You’d think Citi Bike was holding up a bank over $4. Everybody’s screaming about the price of an e-bike.
You’re not buying a bicycle. You’re buying access to a bicycle that’s sitting on a New York City street corner, available when you need it, – at Manhattan, NY

Flat tire? Car won't start? Stuck at home unable to leave a sick child? Here comes city government to multiply the problem by vandalizing your property.
Travis is an apex predator put on ice in 2017 and only recently reactivated from cryogenic slumber.
Standards for male behavior have moved so far that he's actively perplexed by it.
Our current ecology was last home to performative frat bros nearly a decade ago.
So when Travis tells TBPN he jet skis to work, and Jordi + John ask whether he does his best thinking on the jet ski, he pauses.
You can visibly see him get confused, with an expression like "What the fuck are you guys talking about?"
Then he quite literally voices his frustration: "No guys...it's a fucking notch on the belt. Who else do you know who jet skis to work? Nobody. I'm the guy."
Even the literal technology brothers are incapable of fathoming a man who does things just for the bit.
Travis in 2026 is like the T-rex from Jurassic Park 2 who finds himself in modern day San Diego being like, yo, what the FUCK is this place?
And then just stomps everything in sight.

"If you want to go down the path of hedonic individualist pleasure - that's now cheaper than ever. If you want to start a family, especially a reasonably large family... that's now more expensive than ever"
An article in The Cut sparked a big debate earlier this month about the perceived wealth gap between parents and their adult children.
The data says the kids are doing just as well as their parents at the same stage.
That feels off, though. Johann Kurtz does an excellent job articulating why the numbers don't tell the whole story -

Thank you Stuyvesant.

more time and energy being spent right now contemplating and debating the nuances of:
Trump accounts

vs Regular brokerage accounts
than actually figuring out realistically what amount of your household cash flow can be dedicated to saving for the kid's future in the first place
...and for what goals
