Elon Musk on why his companies move faster than anyone else. "I'm constantly addressing the limiting factor. Whatever the limiting factor is on speed, I'm going to tackle that. If capital is the limiting factor, I'll solve for capital. If it's not the limiting factor, I'll solve for something else." He then said something most managers never figure out: "If something is going really well and making good progress, there's no point in me spending time on it.The irony is if something's going really well, they don't see much of me. But if something is the limiting factor, they'll see a lot of me." He spends his time entirely on whatever is blocking the next step. Not on what's interesting or what he's best at. But on whatever is the bottleneck right now. Most leaders do the opposite... They gravitate toward what they're comfortable with and away from the hard problem.

Major mistake in life was definitely focusing far too late on mobility In your 20s/30s it slowly changes your entire skeletal structure + tendons None of you will do it but take up yoga at 25-30 and never quit

This is truly gut-wrenching. I had multiple big law friends who considered joining Harvey very early on (2022–2023) but turned it down because the product did not really work. I am not sure the product works, so they are probably right, but they truly missed out on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Could have escaped the rat race in 3 years, and now they are still grinding as always. Absolutely brutal.
Say you joined a company within the last four years and vested an initial $250k stock package - here are the 25 top performers

The real purpose of wealth is to have the calm to live your life your way. It's to have the freedom to slow down. To spend your days doing things that you actually care about. That’s what money is really for. Not to impress strangers. Or to collect expensive distractions. But to own your time. To have a quiet breakfast without checking emails. Long dinners without looking at the clock. Conversations without feeling rushed. A calm weekend without thinking about the spreadsheet you need to turn in on Tuesday. Time to read. To think. To explore your interests. That’s real wealth. Everything else is noise.

Horrendous news
New York City’s Los Tacos No. 1 nabs private equity investment. TSG Consumer — which has also backed Crumbl and Dutch Bros — has made an investment of an unknown amount in the taco brand ow.ly/NFBj106EbOw

If you’re excellent at getting things done, consistent, and super-reliable, but aren’t getting to the next level as a leader, chances are extremely high that it’s because you are not simulating before communicating.

good on ramp! instinct is often to fill exec roles from the outside. early talent is seen through the lens of who they were when they first joined. easy to miss how they've grown and how they can still scale external talent looks safe. and your board is probably encouraging you to look outside (note: many haven't managed themselves) but in my experience these senior hires are 50/50 (at best). more importantly, passing on an early hire star sends a message to your top talent: "there's a ceiling." the ramp approach sends the opposite message: "there's no limit to what you can do here".
ramp did an incredible job of keeping early hires and growing them into execs. @geoffintech --> hired jan 2020 as the first product person, now chief product officer @max11free --> hired april 2020 as the first SDR, now svp of sales @diegozaks --> hired jan 2020 as the first head of design, now vp of design knowledge and context compound over time, having execs who know what the business was like at ~$0 of revenue is such an incredible advantage they know why most decisions were made, what went wrong, and what went right they also have deep trust built over many years of operating together incredibly difficult to replicate

If you want to rise to the top in your area of work, there is one simple rule: Work very hard, over a long period of time. - Most people don't want to work - Fewer want to work hard - Fewer still will want to work hard over a long period of time Elite = Doing Uncommon things

It’s remarkable how much of life is about finding something to work on that gives you energy and surrounding yourself with people you love and then ruthlessly and militantly blocking out every single thing that gets in the way of maximizing your time spent on those two things

Karl-Anthony Towns on what he told Jalen Brunson when he arrived in New York: "I told you that the first day I got here and you welcome me here to New York, I said I want to make sure I amplify you to a whole another level that you haven't even recognized for yourself. I want to be that partner in crime that you haven't had, and I want to make sure that every step of the way, anytime you go anywhere, you're never alone. You always have someone behind you that's ready to do whatever it is to protect you, to protect this city. And I only ask for one thing in return. One thing." (Towns then pointed directly at the Larry O'Brien Trophy) (Via @Roommates__Show)
