By popular request, a new, easier way to see Under The Hood. (You can still download a JSON file, too.)
See your report at teapawt.org/i/jf/under_the_hood
We’ve expanded Under The Hood after seeing people’s appreciation of more transparency into government-required content filtering.
In addition to showing labels applied to your account and posts in the prior month, Under The Hood now shows if your account or posts had their visibility limited because of required compliance with local law(s).
For example, you can see if any of your posts were withheld in a country following a legal demand – and which country.
We’re making this Under The Hood update available to all accounts that meet the basic eligibility criteria (10+ posts in prior month, account at least one year old).
You can get your report at teapawt.org/i/under_the_hood

"If they want to steal, let them steal"
In response to calls by Manitobans for greater legal protection in cases of self-defence, or defence of property, from violent criminals
NDP MLA @Cross4Seine says @MBNDP believe citizens should just pay their insurance & let crime happen.
So the Bridal path CEO will realize, he either should move his family out of Canada. Get private security. Or get licensed and realize that by law he cannot defend himself or acquire anything that would help him against his attackers.
Which is the path of least resistance? Which one ensures that his basic right to safety is available?
Good job guys. You did it. You ended gun crime with C-21. Forever.

262 days.
It’s been 262 days since you were airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital.
262 days since we were told, “We did everything we could, but we don’t think she’s going to make it through the night.”
Since then, I’ve watched you fight for every single one of those days.
251 days ago, you opened your eye, moved it, and shifted your leg only to be rushed back for emergency surgery that morning when hydrocephalus set in.
238 days ago, you were extubated and breathed on your own for the first time.
230 days ago, you felt the sun on your face again.
224 days ago, the cranioplasty we had planned turned into yet another emergency when an infection was discovered.
214 days ago, your EVD was finally removed.
213 days ago, you sat on the edge of the bed with a little help, and I wrapped my arms around you for the first time since the morning I left for work before any of this began.
191 days ago, the NG tube came out, and I saw your beautiful face completely clear of tubes and tape.
179 days ago, your prosthetic skull was placed. Your fifth surgery, and the one that finally stuck. After that, things slowly began to feel possible again.
145 days ago, you smiled for the first time (intentionally) while we played thumb war.
140 days ago, I wheeled you off hospital grounds for the very first time.
61 days ago, I heard your voice again.
40 days ago, we celebrated your 13th birthday at the Foo Fighters.
And today, today you’re being released.
There was never a day I stopped believing we would get here. The road ahead is still long, but this is a milestone no one thought we would reach. Maya, you are the bravest person I know. You are an inspiration to so many people. Giving up was never an option for me, and it clearly never was for you either. You refused to accept the words we heard 262 days ago when you came out of the OR. Look at you, my girl. You blew every expectation out of the water.
Thank you to the incredible nurses, doctors, and therapists who walked every step of this with us. Thank you to everyone who supported Maya and our family we could not have done this without each and every one of you.
Now it’s time to leave these hospital walls behind and keep moving forward, Maya Bear.
I love you forever and always.

🚨My fear is that next week the Prime Minister will create an illusion of fiscal prudence while accumulating $733 billion in generational debt.
Debt-to-GDP ratio? No longer the government's primary fiscal anchor.
$19 billion per year in operating expenses? Re-labled as capital investments.
Borrowing? $733 billions over 5 years, much of it hidden in Crown corporations, obscured from Canadians' visibility.
Yet, the government will tell Canadians it is on the path to balancing its operating budget.

Among 32 high-income countries with universal health care, Canada is second in spending, but 26th in beds, 28th in MRI units, and CT scanners, and 30th in doctors.
The situationship Carney gets us into is real with the EU.
Even Greece, with their economic adventures and mishaps doesn't want Canada as an "associate member" of their clique.
We need to stop doing this "Canada's got talent" bs roadshow and start up the actual trade missions with the trade commissioners.
The ones where Canadian companies sign some deals, make money, hire more Canadians. Not fake battery plants, housing foreign workers in Canada.

Congratulations to the B.C. Conservatives!
What an incredible victory.
While I’ve never met the Premier-designate, he seems, by all accounts, to be a man of class that’s focused on uniting all conservatives behind a message of hope and optimism that resonates with everyday people. He’ll serve the people of B.C. well.
Congratulations B.C.!
The best part is that some of those having a meltdown today may wake up in a year or two and realize that all the doomsday scenarios about Conservatives they are dreaming about will not come to fruition. Instead they might actually get some progress and fiscal governance in that province now.
Maybe, some realization will hit that rampant activism has not improved lives and instead radicalized too many interest groups to squander resources for no benefit.
Just like when Ford allowed Grocery and Gas to carry alcohol - the insane "what if" scenarios progressives imagined would happen never materialized, instead everything is just more convenient and makes more sense for everyone in the province.
The era of unlimited existential fear is hopefully going to be corrected with a steady hand.

Foldable iPhone Duo devices are reportedly breaking in large numbers, with displays failing along the hinge crease.
Buyers in Japan, China, Australia, and other countries have reported the same issue. In some cases, the display reportedly fails while the phone is still on display in stores.
The symptoms are identical: after just a few days of use, a black line appears across the screen.

Once again the Canadian government FAILS to understand the problem
I would know, I founded and ran a tech company for a decade and raised MILLIONS from investors
And it was HORRIBLE doing business here
Let me explain
This isn't a "money issue"
This is a regulatory, economic and taxation issue combined with a deep cultural problem
Back in 2015 I founded a tech company, using my own money from working in the Alberta oil field
We developed our MVP in Montreal and launched our proof of concept right here in the West Island
Our first ever investors were our own first clients. We raised $150,000 from them
But things got harder when it came time to raise our seed round
I met with EVERY SINGLE VC in Montreal.
All told us NO
Why?
Too risky
lol... its the very definition of Venture Capital
They wanted a pitch deck, projections on 5 years, cashflow, business plan, go-to-market strategy, communication strategy, marketing strategy, Tech reviews, C.V. of founding team, financial disclosure etc
We spent more time preparing documents for them than we did scaling our business
Worse of all, they all wanted something different and would give contradicting requirements
I remember this interaction at the Espace CDPQ, the headquarter for all Venture firms in Montreal
ie:
Investor: How much do you need
Me: $1 Million
Investor: So if you only raise $750k what happens?
Me: Well we'll adapt XYZ
Investor: So then never EVER tell me a fix number. Give me a range. $750K-$1.5M or else you look foolish
I went home, reworked the pitch deck
The very next day:
New investor: How much you need
Me: $750K-$1.5M
New investor: What... you don't even know your number???
Me: well... yes but what if we raise less or more
New Investor: No, you look foolish
We said screw it. Approached American Investor
Our first was a VC firm out of Houston, Texas
Took less than 1 month from initial pitch, to closing.
In USD. For more money than what Canadians wanted to offer.
Best of all, they understood the fluid nature of a startup. No onerous and rigid plan. No overburdened documentation. Every second wasted on non-operating activities was sucking productive time away from scaling.
But Elliot... what about BDC and other AMAZING institutions in Canada
We did business with the BDC. a $250,000 loan. Which I had to personally guarantee.
Which 25 year old has assets and the balls to guarantee that amount? Very few. It's prohibitive. And reduces capital available to our homegrown companies
And this was AFTER MONTHS of explaining to them what we were doing. It was clear the BDC was setup to support traditional brick-and-mortar companies only.
Think Manufacturers or Commerces. But a tech startup? They could NOT wrap their heads around it.
Canadian banks? Forget it. Outright. Too risky
Then I watch fellow startups do the same. And move to the US.
Why wouldn't they?
In Quebec, I had to pay an extra 15% on top of my payroll as taxes. QPIP, QPP, FSS, CNESST... all to satisfy the government non-stop appetite.
Consequences: Well for a startup where every dollar counts, this means lower salaries thus harder to attract top talent (vs American competitors)
or
I simply hired less staff... thus slowly growth for both my company and the country's economy.
But wait it gets worse.
Revenue Quebec and CRA both required a plethora of compliance documents filled monthly or quarterly. GST and QST tax fillings, CNESST Salary equity (yes lol) documents, Source deduction documents, RL-1 fillings, Income tax (both QC and CAN), Workplace sexual harassment policy, OQLF policy, CNESST training and certification... the list goes on
At least 1 day a month was spent by me and some of my executives preparing and fulfilling these documents. This means we were't scaling our business and instead working for FREE for the government.
Then there is the tax burden.
Why would top talent want to come here and get taxed at up to 52% marginal rate?
While a Miami startup offers higher salary and the State taxes you 0%
Finally investor behaviour
In Canada... safe. steady return. Great for a Series C. Great for an established companies. No desire for risk. No understanding of the ecosystem.
HORRIBLE FOR VENTURE
Meanwhile the U.S. , they understand the ecosystem. 90% of their investment will go down to 0. But the few that survive will go on to earn them BILLIONS and change the world.
So this new announcement of $1.75Billion won't change the underlying issue that makes us uncompetitive.
At best, it will go to startups who will flee to the US the very second the money hits
At worse, it will just be another slush fund given to friends of the government
and I fear its the latter as usual
Ottawa kicks off process to give $1.75-billion boost to venture capital sector
