My personal & honest opinion: CAs, ICAI and CBDT
1. We should not expect ICAI to keep asking for due-date extensions. From a limited reading of the CA Act, ICAI is a statutory body for regulation of the profession: education, examination, training, entry into practice, professional standards, discipline, quality, and development of accountancy knowledge. That part it does well. No complaints.
2. Chartered Accountants are the professionals "defined" under the Income tax Act for tax audit. The demand for more time is therefore between CAs who take on those audits and CBDT, which administers the law.
3. In roughly two decades of articleship and practice, my sense is that CBDT does not fully grasp ground realities. Even outreach programmes are often shaped by departmental officers and by influencers & politicians in the tax field (who are not necessarily practising CAs). There is a real gap between the official picture and how work actually happens.
4. The tax audit narrative is still built on older “scrutiny” instincts. In much of the SME sector, books are written from an income tax lens rather than as proper accounts with tax computation as a separate exercise. That shifts a heavy load onto CAs, who must certify the same. Given the complexity of the forms and the Act, good work needs time. The present window is not enough.
The solution is not simple, and this will keep recurring every year. Extensions are only "arrangements". Tax audit needs a fundamental re-assessment and restructuring.
Many people may not like this view. I am not in the race for another #extension. I believe it is the client’s duty to get the audit done on time; if they do not, it is the client who should face the consequences.
At the same time, as a member of the fraternity, I feel CBDT should recognize the pressure on CAs who certify compliance, and carry statutory responsibility. A permanent design, not another date, would let CAs do the work properly and discharge that duty better.
You can have your own views, different from this. Honest and creative views are welcome.

🚨Extend Tax Audit due date today!!
Work started at 8 AM on this Sunday morning!!
One of the toughest audit seasons in many years.
ITR due dates were staggered to 31st July/31st August, perhaps to ease pressure on the IT infrastructure without thinking the impact on Auditors/tax payers with an unreasonably short window for completing tax audits.
Please listen to stakeholders and rationalise the due dates permanently. There should be at least a two month gap between the ITR due date and the Tax Audit due date.
For this year, the immediate need is clear :-
Extend Tax Audit due date today.

As of now, the demand for a reasonable extension of the Tax Audit Report (TAR) due date is now before multiple High Courts.
1. Rajasthan HC: C.W. 19356/2026 - The Rajasthan Tax Consultants Association, Jaipur & Anr. vs. Union of India & Ors.
2. Madhya Pradesh HC: WP 40462/2026 - Madhya Pradesh Tax Consultants Association vs. Union of India & Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT)
3. Madhya Pradesh HC: WP 40525/2026 - Sarthak Choudhary & Kailash Kumar Gera vs. Union of India & Ors.
EXTENSION IS COMING SOON! 🙏🏻🔥🔥

The introduction of a separate 31 August non-audit ITR deadline is welcome. But the Tax Audit deadline should also provide a workable interval.
Please move the Tax Audit deadline to 31 October.

Understand the ground realities,

Rationalise the Tax Audit Report due date.
If ground realities had been considered & stakeholders consulted before fixing the timeline-this one month gap for Tax Audit would never have been prescribed @FinMinIndia @IncomeTaxIndia @theicai

You should also be urging the Hon'ble FM to delete clauses of Form No.3CD which require a load of irrelevant and non actionable data eg Clauses 26A(b), 26B(a), 44, 31(ba), 31(bc), 27(a), 32, 31(d) and 31(e). Also clauses 22(iii), 31(a), 31(b), 31(bb) and 31(bc) needs to be restructured along the lines of corresponding clauses of Form No.26.
This will lighten the burden of tax auditors as well as reduce the load on the portal.
Entire Team urge @FinMinIndia to take note on this and provide suitable action so that the mean of True and fair view can be come out while conducting Audits.

Extend TAR Due Date🚨
Tax Auditors should ideally be applying auditing skills, professional judgement & due diligence during Audits
Instead, they are forced to work with an impractical deadline constantly on their minds
Not good for auditors, assesses & Tax ecosystem as a whole!!

New UPI rules explained.
If you send money to another person.
You pay ₹0.
For example:
You send ₹500 to your friend : No charge
You send ₹10,000 to your mother: No charge
You send ₹1 lakh to someone: No charge
If you pay a shop or a business
The customer still pays ₹0.
The charge, called MDR, Merchant Discount Rate is charged to the merchant, not you.
For example, suppose you buy a ₹10,000 television and pay through UPI.
You pay: ₹10,000
Merchant receives: ₹9,960 if the 0.4% MDR applies
₹40 is the MDR.
So you don't see an extra ₹40 deducted from your bank account.
If the transaction to the Merchant 8s below ₹2000. He gets the full ₹2000 amt. No MDR is charged to the merchant.
For small businesses, small merchants receiving up to ₹1 lakh per month through QR code payments remain at zero MDR.
So hawkers, roadside vendors are not charged MDR.
