Ever wondered what it’s like to learn robot autonomy @Stanford? Now you can.
Today, we’re opening up the robot autonomy teaching materials that my collaborators and I have been developing over the past several years—for anyone, anywhere, completely free.
At the heart of this effort is Principles of Robot Autonomy (PoRA), a textbook inspired by the Stanford robot autonomy course series I’ve been teaching since 2017.
Robot autonomy has evolved from a research discipline into a technology deployed in the real world. Building capable autonomous systems requires more than understanding individual algorithms: it requires understanding how perception, state estimation, planning, control, and learning work together in a complete autonomy stack.
That’s what we set out to teach with PoRA: bringing classical robotics and modern AI together in one coherent framework, grounded in both theory and practice.
Coming soon in print from Cambridge University Press, Principles of Robot Autonomy is also freely available online and comes with a comprehensive collection of open educational resources:
📖 Textbook, arxiv.org/abs/2608.03496 — Foundations of robot autonomy, from classical methods to modern AI-based approaches.
🎥 Video lectures, porabook.com/lectures/ Lectures from my Stanford courses on robot autonomy and on optimal and learning-based control.
💻 Interactive exercises, porabook.com/exercises/ — Hands-on Python implementations and Jupyter notebooks.
📝 Teaching materials, porabook.com/instructors/ — Lecture slides and resources for instructors.
🌐 Explore all PoRA resources, porabook.com/ — Including Ask the Book, an AI study assistant integrated throughout the textbook to answer questions, explain derivations, and connect ideas across chapters.

Our goal is simple: to make high-quality education in robot autonomy accessible to students, researchers, engineers, educators, and anyone curious about how autonomous robotic systems work.
I believe that sharing knowledge is fundamental to the mission of a university. Autonomous robotics—and Physical AI more broadly—are among the defining technological frontiers of our time. We want to help more people understand these technologies, build with them, and advance the field.
A huge thank you to my co-authors, @DanieleGammelli, Joseph Lorenzetti, @katielulula, and @GioeleZardini, and to everyone who helped bring this project to life.
Explore the resources, use them in your own learning or teaching, and please share them with anyone who might find them useful!

Jensen closed his GTC Berlin 2026 keynote with this Hermes Agent demo as the finale.
He introduced it by saying the way to build an agent is to ask an agent to build it for you, so he installed and set up a customized Hermes in one prompt.
Then he used Hermes, running on @nvidia RTX Spark, to create a simulated training environment for the @huggingface Microduck. Hermes planned an obstacle course with Nemotron and had GPT-6 Astra build it using FreeCAD, Omniverse libraries, Blender, Newton, and Isaac Lab. Hermes trained thousands of simulated ducks on that course until the validated policy was ready to run on the real robot in the physical world.
At Nous, we believe open source is a practical tool as much as a philosophical ideal. It gives users the ability to build powerful, complex workflows chaining numerous local+cloud models, devices, and tools themselves instead of waiting for a company to enable them.

Cancer patients with the same diagnosis often have very different tumor biology.
Molecular testing can reveal underlying differences, but that's slow and expensive.
Introducing Holon-S1, our platform to predict genes and biomarkers from routine pathology slides.
• beats two other models at predicting spatial gene activity in a controlled comparison
• has identified potentially novel biomarkers in breast cancer and colon cancer
• evaluated across 16 organ types and more than 15 scanners, using slides from both formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded and fresh-frozen tissue.
We believe Holon-S1 has the potential to help researchers find new biomarkers in slides they already have, discover treatment targets, and bring more personalized cancer care within reach!

Should Europe leave frontier AI to the Americans and the Chinese?
The idea has gained ground in Europe. It is a fundamental mistake.
Build or surrender: for now, the choice is still ours.

Beam weights are out today (Apache 2.0 license).
We integrated Beam across 40+ different partners.
And are also open sourcing Mirror CLI - the harness Beam was trained against.
Happy building.
Beam is now available across platforms, with open weights under the Apache 2.0 license - in collaboration with an ecosystem of 40+ partners.
We're releasing:
- Weights, tokenizer, and reference implementation
- BF16, FP8 and NVFP4 weights and a DFlash2 drafter
- The open source harness we built and trained Beam on: Mirror CLI

Biosecurity is one of the most urgent challenges for the AI era. Bringing SynthID to biology so AI-generated proteins can be watermarked is a critical step - and we’re open sourcing SynthID Bio tools so the research community can build on this work. Published in @Nature today, congrats to the team! nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
Very happy to announce that our team @GoogleDeepmind has pushed the boundaries of generative biology, achieving the successful synthesis of AI-designed proteins that are both functional and watermarked.
This proof-of-concept watermarking of the building blocks of life is enabled by SynthID Bio, our new protein watermarking method. It is designed to safeguard the new era of AI-powered generative biology and strengthen global biosecurity.

Today we give Atlas dexterous hands, with the strength to take on real work, and the simplicity for mass manufacturing. Like the body, the hands are designed with high fidelity simulation in mind, to enable sim-to-real RL. If you give dexterous hands to a robot, make them do dexterous things.

Hugging Face is where much of the machine learning community publishes and finds its datasets, while DuckDB is the in-process analytical database that queries files like CSV and Parquet directly, with no server or warehouse to install or run. 🤗 🦆
Did you know that, since #DuckDB v0.10.3 (~May 2024), you can point a SELECT at a dataset on the Hugging Face Hub, using the DuckDB `hf://` protocol, and query it, without downloading it first?
This blog post covers how that integration works and the use cases it fits: duckdb.org/2026/09/25/huggin…
