My most popular Tweet of all time over 1 MILLION impressions!! Learn how carbs put your blood sugar up 😊
1/7 My 7sugar infographics are back! They help people with T2D predict the glycaemic consequences of dietary choices. Carbs are the main drivers of blood sugar. Here I reinterpret the glycaemic load as approx. 4g teaspoons of table sugar. Freely available phcuk.org/sugar/
So what a success the @lowcarb_aus conference in Sydney has been ! Three days packed with great presentations and tasty food. Many thanks to Rod Tayler @DrPeterBrukner @DrPaulMason @DefeatDiabetes_ for hosting us once again. We are well on our way home now

A new RCT shows that even when UPF meals are nutritionally matched to non-UPF meals, they trigger higher insulin spikes, alter energy metabolism, and also change how your brain responds to food cues. Food processing matters far beyond macronutrients! nature.com/articles/s42255-0…

What happens when TOWARD’s metabolic telemedicine care is evaluated using the AHA’s own PREVENT calculator?
In our 120-patient cohort, estimated 10-year ASCVD risk fell 29% after one year.
Steak. Eggs. Good metabolic medicine. Lower estimated risk.

Guidelines should stop recommending antidepressants for children with depression. The new analysis confirms what has been suspected for years that benefits of antidepressants, including fluoxetine, are minimal & will not compensate for known harms. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
This is certainly the most consequential paper published in child and adolescent psychiatry for the last few years. It shows that the meta-analyses that current child psychiatry guidelines rely on to recommend fluoxetine for depression were skewed by an unbelievable trial (n=40) in Iran which found an effect 15 times larger than the average.
When this trial is removed all meta-analyses find the same as a recent Cochrane analysis which found 'small and unimportant differences.'
The flawed meta-analyses by Zhou and @cipriani in the @TheLancet and Lancet Psychiatry need to be corrected.
And guideline committees need to update their guidance in the context of the harms of these drugs including withdrawal effects, sexual effects and agitation/akathisia and suicidality in a minority of youths exposed to them.

You do not need to eat breakfast.
You do not need to eat every few hours.
And hunger is not an emergency.
Humans are perfectly capable of going several hours without food.
If you can’t, your body may have become too dependent on a constant supply of glucose instead of comfortably accessing stored energy.
Chances are you have insulin resistance and possibly also don’t eat enough protein.

Community support is THE biggest factor in successfully recovery from addiction.
Most diabetes guidelines pay lip service to dietary advice, using it just once at the start of the patient journey When in fact it matters throughout a person’s life with diabetes Often resulting in the potential for deprecribing of expensive medications with significant side effects
How about just avoiding foods that put your blood sugar up ?

The use of a surrogate endpoint in a clinical trial may allow faster approval of a novel treatment, but at the cost of increased uncertainty about treatment benefit.
