Cancelling free plan was the best thing @PlanetScale could have done. Right before the vibecoding wave, which was in retrospect the best timing. @samlambert keep pumping more awesome affordable tech.
It's been one month since we released the Neki platform preview. Since then we've added $50 Metal nodes, improved Postgres compatibility, read-only replicas, Azure support, and much more.  Full list of updates and where to start if you need sharding:  planetscale.com/blog/neki-up…

Last year I was limited by my main app being stuck on Laravel 8 when we already had v12 for some time. But I knew the upgrade won't be trivial. Here is what broke going from @laravel 8 to version 12 in 48h. As I used AI everything was fine, but one thing. There was one breaking change and it cost me dearly. Of course it was the Carbon "diff in" function. Downstream package (carbon) changed how it handles difference in time calculation between versions 2 and 3. So there is a parameter which was optional so I never put it coding manually this project from 2021. And it changed if the diff is absolute value or signed value. Big big problem as bad flip will destroy the whole function. So I needed perfect accuracy on rewrite. Keep in mind there was many more changes between these 4 version of Laravel so this wasn't 100% of my focus. And AI agents were not so good as they are today. So I rewrote some. Didn't get all of them. Or at least didn't get them right. Pushed to production and waited what will break. Remember that you can't handle everything as a programer/software engineer, what matters the most is swiftness of your reaction. And that you have systems in place that can catch errors. Long story short, over the weekend I fixed all of this and fast forward till today I am on version 13 and PHP 8.5, cause I don't put off upgrades anymore. What are the other 2 traps I got myself into? Not that serious that they would break prod, but also serious. Laravel forge has workers and they have PHP version too. So if you upgrade the PHP version of the site, you need to upgrade the workers version as well, or it might break. I was not sending emails for a day until I noticed. And last one is from going from Laravel 12 to 13. When a new version comes out, all the other stuff around that you use is not always up to date anymore. And this is the case for Laravel octane usually. It takes like a week until it works with new stuff. (Someone needs to do a PR and this whole deal) So I was eager to upgrade, I did it, pushed and it breaks on the deploy pipeline. Great. So now it won't work and I need to wait. But all of this doesn't matter today as agents will do this perfectly for you for like $3. But we must remember where we came from and that good developers can make mistakes, and just fix them quickly enough.

I am obsessed with my DB performance. Good thing I am on @PlanetScale cause I only need to worry about my queries. I watch mostly p99 and QPS so I made a @omarchy plugin for that. I encourage you to do the same. Repo is public, if you want, send issues, my agent will fix them for you. github.com/LukasCaha/omarchy…

Grok @bot is really fast. Like impossibly fast. How can I get the same speed in my local @cursor_ai CLI?

I spent a lot of time on migration from Google Data Studio to Grafana. And today it's finally paying off big time. My problem with Data Studio was that I can't control it well with code. @grafana ok the other hand can be easily exported and imported, great in combo with grok @bot

You know that every food can be categorized into only one of 4 categories? Salad, sandwich, soup and ravioli. Simple as that. Also optimal problem for Jev from @typesafeai 🥗🥟🍲🥪🥗🥟🍲🥪🥗🥟🍲🥪 jev-dish-taxonomy.lukascaha.…

This is what I expected in today's era of AI development. Someone that actually understands what we need making it happen. I can eventually do the same thing but having it preconfigured is just waaay smoother if I need to do actual work. And now you can get this on linux as well
it’s the little things ✨also, php was being installed globally via pacman (no good) now is fully managed by mise, you can have a php version per project, etc etc just like ruby, node, etc

I did quick profanity filter with @typesafeai Jev. It first classifies the whole message as profanity or not. Then it goes word by word and flags words that need to be replaced with *****. It can do even Fortnite speak as "unalive" or other more extreme github.com/LukasCaha/jev-pro…

On my internal benchmark Jev did the best beating lexicon flagging and token scoring method. By a lot of accuracy Of course do your own tests on your data and languages, but this is pretty good for quick demo. Bench data are synthetic*

My first $1 spent on @typesafeai Jev. All it took was multiple benchmarks, and labeling thousands of user ratings multiple times. Now how do I pay you guys?

The Jev interface is not easy to interact with for my quick idea validation, so I am talking to @bot over the app to test out Jev's capability. Right now I might have one game changing feature for our internal use.

Already finding exploits? @bot First stop, our accounting software. Buddy overcame the read only permission and now I am raising an issue with them. Grokbot is now looking if they have bounty program. (all this this was accidental, grokbot is just looking after me)

Very useful tip from @grok @bot desktop app. Using Ctrl+K opens commands/search, however you call it. So going between agents you don't need to lift your fingers from keyboard.

one of the underrated but noticeable improvements in agents in last year is that before they always created migrations with FKs, however my @PlanetScale doesn't have them, now days it knows and i don't need to fix them anymore

.@cursor_ai hey guys did you move away from referrals? I was looking for the link to send to my accountant so he can also develop with agents but cant find it.

This is pretty sweet @samlambert I am tempted every day to publish my email in same way (also after the podcast with @jasonfried) but I know I would get 30 urgent messages every day that I have no power to solve. Its a bummer that 20% of our business is inherently people on email
