Replying to @Verizon
@Verizon I truly hate your new and not-improved forward and rewind options on the TV remote. It's anti-consumer, actually. It used to be that I could rewind only a few seconds to hear something I missed...

...but now you have these segmented increments where I have no choice but to rewind 30–40 seconds. This new method takes away my choice to rewind or go forward as much as I prefer. I no longer have a choice. That's why I say this is an anti-consumer move. Fix this.

"I've said for decades here that the @nytimes doesn't particularly like the far-right Republicans who rise to the top of the GOP...but it loathes Democrats once they've taken power—and sometimes even when they're merely on the verge of accruing power." nomoremister.blogspot.com/20…

The first five of the 10 Commandments are bullshit. Disrespecting the Christian God (or any god) or one's parents (if they haven't earned your respect) is not wrong, QED sin is just an invented disease to sell a snake oil cure.
Is it though? I find it fascinating how many atheists are obsessed with denying the reality of sin, me thinks the lady doth protest too much, don’t you?

AI had been the standard term since 1956. 'Superintelligence' had a very specific and powerful meaning when Nick Bostrom wrote about it in 2014 - an AI that vastly exceeds human cognitive abilities across all domains. Conflating these terms is very confusing, counterproductive, historically uninformed, and insulting to the hundreds of thousands of people who have worked on AI over the last 70 years.

This looks like a case of "Trump Derangement Syndrome" to me. Something I wrote and posted last year: lyonsnyc.medium.com/trump-de…

Trump is deranged; there are people who nonetheless admire him; therefore, Trump's admirers suffer from "Trump Derangement Syndrome." I see nothing wrong or inaccurate about this syllogism. lyonsnyc.medium.com/trump-de…

Trump is making decisions as president based on what will personally make him more money. I’m old enough to remember when Fox News threw tantrums and Republicans called for endless hearings when Joe Biden received a $40,000 loan repayment check from his brother.

Claiming science is "limited to the physical" rescues nothing. Evidence is limited to what can leave evidence. Any entity—physical or otherwise—that changes or impinges on reality should produce consequences. Perpetual undetectability isn't transcendence—it's evidential failure.

I won't weigh in on the latest Sydney Sweeney brouhaha, but here's something I wrote last year about that jeans/gene ad: medium.com/@lyonsnyc/sydney-…

The evidence is extremely weak. It's like saying there's evidence of vampires because a bunch of people claimed to see them 2000 years ago. Calling THAT evidence is a stretch and a half.
