One of the things that is often missing from the Log-OLS debate is that log(Y), log(1+Y), arcsin(Y) or g(Y) or whatever, is almost never a quantity you directly care about. You care about Y and you care about E[Y] and E[Y|X] 1/5

Maybe we should have a large math prize for re-proving the 4-color map theorem via an intuitive method that doesn’t involve non brute force.

Give how mind-bendingly fast tech seems to be moving, it is oddly reassuring that math is having the same debate as they did when the 4-color map theorem proof came out in 1976.

We need a middle ground between GPL and MIT licenses, where you don't *have* to publish the changes to the code, but like, come on dude, you really should. The Dazed and Confused License: "You don't have to give back the changes, but it'd be a lot cooler if you did..."

Squeezing the last bit out of your Claude Code subscription before the weekly reset. While this is very silly, I did actually learn a lot about LLM text. The big models really don't need to sound like their stock posture. ai-writers-room.malcolmwardl…

It was fun while it lasted...
As a result of a US government directive, we are suspending access to Claude Fable 5 for all users. You can continue to use all other Claude models. Here’s what this means for you: Across Claude products, new sessions will run on your selected default model or Opus 4.8, and existing Fable 5 sessions will end with an error. On the Claude Platform, requests to Fable 5 will also return an error. Please update your integrations to other Claude models. We know this is a disruption to your workflows; we appreciate your patience and support.

Josh is right, and none of the haters realize it. Everyone north of the Mason-Dixon line, and half the people south, are going to *hate, hate, hate* this thing when if and when it happens. Everyone online is so smug about it, but they're dogs that will regret catching the bus.
People are going to hate this if it happens, just like they hated it in the 1970s when we tried it before. Just months into permanent DST, the House voted 383-16 to repeal it.

This Canvas hack is really getting me down because it is privately validating whomever is responsible for the absurd custom (and decades obsolete) Brightspace/D2L installation we have at UGA. I would gladly trade jobs with anyone using a well run Canvas deployment right now.

Question: Is Magyar a common surname in Hungary? In my mind, PM Péter Magyar sounds like a US Presidential candidate named "Johnny American." To be clear, I would 100% vote for a candidate whose birth name was Johnny American.

Saying "since 2020" is kinda burying that the benchmark is the day after the legendary negative oil price day.

The mass replication studies published in Nature today are insane, exemplary and an enormous pile of work to improve science. It's just so awesome how many people spent time on this in return to be 1/100 coauthors on a thing. Just outstanding 🙌🙌🙌 1/

Aggrieved students should make their way to the storage locker in the music department, where they shall find the smallest violin, playing just for them.
Under Harvard's proposed new grading policy, the 10th-best undergraduate out of 10 in a graduate-level elective would be capped at an A‑minus. For honors evaluation, they would be recorded as "0th percentile." That's not a typo.

Friggin' legends dude. Giants walked the earth next to me while I hurried off to watch Spongebob Squarepants.
