I never agreed with statements that suggests putting your life on hold until you get your degree or doing the type of work you want after tenure. They both miss the way living life influences the work you do. What good is tenure if it’s not a product of anything meaningful?

never forget that humanities, social sciences, and arts subsidize STEM, not the other way around
Replying to @cnewf
and there's a (3)--public universities can not longer afford to subsidize the much higher costs of STEM research, which has been squeezing SASH disciplines for years. And yet we can't talk about it: no topic has gotten me more yelled at than STEM cross-subsidies @brouillettese

The aggressively stupid and totally fringe NeverWarren hashtag is trending because of the people who are pointing out that it’s stupid. Don’t let a few dummies ruin Bernie or Warren for y’all. They are both stellar leaders and humans.

War doesn’t have a reset button, I learned this lesson at the age of Eight. Lives will be lost, many innocent lives will be lost and the future of generations will be impacted. Let’s call for peace.

The reason so many authors have anxiety is because if you mess up at an office job, Linda in HR will only be mad at you until Friday at 5 PM, but I just saw a girl on Goodreads blame Sophocles for ruining her high school experience, and the man has been dead for 2000 years

Excellent article by @Carlsonics in the @chronicle on the demographic decline and closing of Vermont colleges. Thanks for helping the world know that the @greenmtncollege legacy strong, perhaps because it didn’t generate tons of wealth.

It’s the end of the semester so I just want to recognize all you’ve done for me: Shout out to the meeting cancellers. I see you. Hell yeah. I love it. Cancel the shit out of that meeting.

I remain curious as to why so many journalists can hear that the Russian government intentionally manipulated them in order to disrupt our democracy and not pause for one moment to ponder, "Is there anything I should have done differently?"

There’s a senior academic who I know & respect hugely & whose work is amazing. They once told me they work 9-5 and always protect their weekends. I don’t think they know how important this throwaway comment has been for mental health over the last two years of precariously ECRing

I’m always fearful that my colleagues will judge me as less committed or less engaged when I can’t attend evening and weekend events.
