ok since hundreds of chuds have been dragging me for the past 24 hours, let me explain why I regard this AI music video as a new form of artistry. why do you feel an irresistble urge to engage with this artwork?
first off consider the image: he is ugly. whenever this gets posted online, people criticise him for being ugly. then other people criticise them for being mean. the engagement is engineered in
and he is not just ugly, he is talented. this is a wish fulfilment fantasy for all the insecure guys online who think they will be loveable if only they are skilled enough to qualify. this is a wholesome message addressing the toxic shadow of incel culture and the looksmaxxing nonsense
he’s not just ugly, he’s big, he hypermasculine, he could crush your skull with his hands. but he has a tiny feminine voice. that juxtaposition is a caricature, it is an exaggeration to tickle your gender sensors. the point about masculinity would not carry as well with a real human artist, the cartoonishness gets the point across with drag queen intensity
now we get to the music. if you care about music, you can recognise the sonic AI fingerprint immediately
but this song was released in the last 2 weeks, it can do new things that previous AI music could not. the rhythm of speech goes hard, the rhythm and flow feels natural even though he is saying gibberish words. if you listen to AI music from just a few weeks ago, you can hear they always get the rhythm wrong, emphasising random syllables. this song breaks through because one more technical challenge of composition has been solved by the bots
now speaking of bots. I have a medium-large twitter account. I constantly post about random topics that interest me. today this post got 100X more hate than I am used to. why? why have these independent thinkers suddenly arrived en mass to call me retarded for this one post? because people, you are being controlled by Chinese, Russian, and American outrage factories, they are the world experts at engagement engineering, and they have identified that AI is the current wedge
your reaction to this post is not about AI music. your reaction is a defence of your identity. you care about being the “type of person” who has the right opinion about AI music, as if such a thing exists. and you have identified me as the “type of person” with the wrong opinion. if you're not careful they'll have you thinking you're a guard dog, you see outgroup, you bark, you get that squirt of pleasure like a pat on the head, good boy!
they don’t even have to give you any treats fml
it’s fascinating watching one category of musicians freak out about AI, meanwhile there are new forms of artistry popping up like mushrooms
this track was released 2 weeks ago. it goes undeniably hard
the character “Young Soul” is one of these new AI influencers: a very unusual looking man who reveals unexpected talent on camera
maybe the first time I am hearing an AI song that actually has good prosody and flow. perfect earworm
half the audience knows its AI, the other half has no clue
stop thinking bro just enjoy the bop
Embrace your normality.
Replying to @marinwaves
we all have the capacity for normal and I think I can tap into it quite well and frequently
In computer graphics one of the most used system for facial deformation is FACS (facial action coding system). It is based on the research by the author believing that feelings and emotions are somehow universally "coded" into the facial features, which numerous research after that shows is not true at all. That doesn't make the system bad for decoding movements and muscle group triggers, it's actually pretty good for that. But it's funny that it started from a wrong belief.

There's the idea that we may move from a "dopamine economy" (= instant hits of gratification but unsustainable) to an "oxytocin economy" (= building real and lasting connections between people) and I hope it's true.
It's kinda funny that ISO stands for "International Organization for Standardization", but they abbreviate themselves as ISO, not IOS.
Had such an energizing call with @simon_ohler and @kbeecroft about the future of Coliven. I am super pumped and excited about what we are preparing for the future to support more hosts ❤️🔥

RAY GUNN by Brad Bird is a marvel to behold and a great ride to experience. It is also a 100% blast in a theatrical environment. It must be made available to be experienced collectively. It is wise and wholesome but also real and spectacular. Delicate and thrilling and erudite and popular. Brad Bird is, in my opinion, in the Western hemisphere, the most talented animation director at staging, not only action- at which he is a master- but purely cinematic moments of character revelation and connection (...)
AGI is coming, but the models still write sentences like "This event is gone for good. It's host canceled it."
Such a cringe way to explain something so simple.

Love: everyone’s trying to get it. The secret is, you’re supposed to learn (remember) how to give it.
And for all the people pleasers out there: give it to yourself first.
For all the people in too much pain to hear this: I’m sorry and I know what it’s like 💔 gl
