If the lives and homes of Palestinians in the West Bank simply don’t matter to you, this could be a take you’d have
This is shaping up to be one of the least-important elections in Israel's history. Either the country gets a couple more years of zombie Netanyahu, which is a known quantity and doesn't presage any major shift in any direction (other than *maybe* another go at the Iranians), or you get an incoherent and probably-Eisenkot-led government whose major project will be its own survival—again, not anything new. An Israeli government of any "ideology" is much more limited in what it can and can't do than after 10/7, and one lesson of recent years is that big events in Israel often aren't directly driven by the PM (or even the state) anymore...
one of the most evil men on the planet
no I think they can be dismissed as hateful racists pretty easily actually
I don't know many people voting for Ben Gvir but of those I do, they are voting because of his stance on terrorists. They feel he is the only one who takes a hard line on terrorists and defends soldiers. One is gay & mizrachi the other a former soldier sees the orders to stand down often leads to the deaths of soldiers.
Ben Gvir will never be prime minister but they want him in the government for these reasons. I don't agree with their choice but they can't be dismissed as hateful racists.

I was deported from Ben Gurion airport earlier this month after officials questioned me about social media posts criticizing Israeli military policies, part of a new crackdown on foreign press

I appreciate this response because it’s not the pseudo intellectual bullshit and just cuts right to what a lot of these people actually think

No such thing as Palestinian. Arab colonizers need to be removed by any means necessary. Mooslums love being martyrs, I think we should give Mooslums their biggest desire. Fuck Islam and the pedo prophet.

Disagree with David Friedman all you want, but it's undeniably true that Jewish civil rights workers in the 1960s did not take pictures of themselves with their phones nor did they post such pictures on twitter xitter.cf/DavidM_Friedman/status…

This is simply untrue. I was there and I was detained as well.
I was part of a group of about three dozen Israelis who went to help Palestinian residents of Nahalin harvest their crops. The group was organized by Rabbis for Human Rights, who have been doing this kind of activity for years, almost every day during the harvest season. Today, Brad Lander and a group of American Rabbis came as well.
This was not theater, not a stunt and not provocation. The activity was entirely peaceful. There was no contact at all between the harvesters and settlers and no threat of violence. The detentions were completely unwarranted.

In the deepening chaos in the West Bank, the IDF detained several dozen American rabbis and volunteers, including my future Democratic colleague Brad Lander; Mattan Berner-Kadish, who grew up in my district; and at least 31 other American citizens helping Palestinian farmers try to harvest olives in the West Bank under the threat of violence. Meantime, vigilante settlers continue to terrorize Palestinians in the West Bank with scant consequences.
Last week, out-of-control settlers injured an American journalist. Now, the IDF targets volunteers for helping Palestinians harvest olives. The eyes of the world are on the West Bank.
what’s crazy is that if Israel had just let us harvest the olives, none of this would have happened! this entire story is just because they can’t help themselves from preventing Palestinian families from working on their own land with volunteers!
hanging out in the police station, waiting to be interrogated after dozens of international and Israeli activists were arrested alongside Brad Lander. olive harvesting is not a crime
the difference between responses on X and IG to a politician joining a harvest campaign… this place is an insane asylum

I'm in the West Bank this week as part of the “Protect the Harvest” coalition along with @israelispeaceny, @ucpinpalestine & Protect the Harvest, which is bringing people together from around the world to help Palestinian farmers harvest olives in the face of state-sanctioned settler terrorism.
Our goals for the trip are to help protect the olive harvest — and to shed a light on the reality of the occupation. To ensure that international solidarity goes beyond the harvest, to become a sustained commitment to protecting Palestinian communities from settler violence, forced displacement, and the ongoing threats to their right to remain on their land.
And, speedily and in our day, to secure human rights, safety, equality & freedom for both Palestinians and Israelis.
Thankfully, our corner of today's harvest was peaceful and successful. But violence unfortunately is never far away.
We’ll keep you posted on our efforts this week, especially the stories we hear from Palestinians on the ground. Protect the Harvest.

Yay. Now we get to listen to Israelis lamenting that they didn’t know how bad things were in the West Bank all this time. Because listening to/believing Palestinians - who for decades have systematically documented/reported what is happening - was never an option.
“Everything we thought we knew about the deeds of violent settlers pales in comparison to the reality on the ground.” In a guest essay Nimrod Novik describes the shock he felt on a tour of the West Bank economist.com/by-invitation/…
every day since the olive harvest started I see another take that leaves me in disbelief that the human brain is capable of arriving at such stupid thoughts
