We acquired AverageAI, made by Mhimed @mhimed100
One of our investors @GJarrosson from Lobster Capital recommended bringing Mhimed onboard
I really think this is one of the most valuable things a VC can do. Mhimed hit all KPIs in his first few days and has 10x'd our numbers since then.
Reminds me of the many stories from the top founders we heard during YC talking about building their business.
They love telling stories. And those stories mostly revolved around recruiting. And the recruiting stories at the beginning of the company are never:
“We had this great resume come in through LinkedIn and knew we had to hire them.” Or “Our outsourced recruiter brought in our lead engineer.”
It’s usually something like:
“I drove around Silicon Valley until I found that research engineer’s new office and didn’t leave until they took a meeting with me.”
“I camped out at Stanford’s dining hall to meet a ridiculously talented AI engineer.”
“I called my brilliant college friend every day until he finally agreed to leave Google.”
But, even out of the high performing startup founder peers in my network, no one seems to do this. We all try to fit recruiting in when we can. And of course, that’s understandable. But, there is some pattern matching here where maybe there’s some sacrifices to be made.
Some small things might fall through the cracks but you can 10 or 100x your company because you were relentlessly pursuing that candidate you know you need to have. I think it’s great that we have modern tools and amazing recruiters to work with in 2025 (we work with great ones!). Recruiting is certainly democratized. But, sometimes I think: what if I took the lessons and greatly increased my time and attention to recruiting. What would happen?
The best founders don’t hire from LinkedIn or use recruiters. They almost stalk the people they want to hire. They are relentless about recruiting.
On that note, we are hiring across engineering, growth and content
If that’s you feel free to reach out. Otherwise, we’ll probably find you soon anyway.
