Given that California is adding almost four times the peak discharge of Diablo Canyon nuclear in 1 year, and more than half of that is storage, it is a waste to spend $1.4 billion just to keep DC open when that could be spent on either more storage or solar.
Between Sept. 2022 and Sept. 2023, alone California will have added
4.3 GW storage
3.8 GW solar
1.2 GW worth of hydro in snowpack
That's enough for 17% of California's summer peak load and 34% of peak load the rest of the year
