Great fun (and highly valuable) to joust with @kelseyhightower just now His knowledge is impressive but integrity gives him the super power of credibility...and he made a few digs at Gartner, which I loved :-)

Gartner clients can access revised forecasts, across a range of markets, covering the wake of the COVID downturn. Search "April 2020 update" at gartner.com or you can see a list via gartner.com/search/research?… ... if I got the URL correct

Halting funding for the World Health Organization during a world health crisis is as dangerous as it sounds. Their work is slowing the spread of COVID-19 and if that work is stopped no other organization can replace them. The world needs @WHO now more than ever.

For those thinking how cloud can help in this time of disruption, by sheer coincidence, @chrisganly1 and I have just finished a note about cloud OpEx vs Capex. Title: "The Impact of Public Cloud on Operating Budgets" It's at gartner.com/document/3982538 (paywall) Stay safe

My #WorkFromHome suggestion #4: For video conferencing: 1) Check your upload bandwidth. The more the better, obviously. I found 1Mbps (not 1MBps) wasn't great 2) Avoid wi-fi if you can. Sit near your router or get a long ethernet cable PS - no bitching about your ISP please

My #WorkFromHome suggestion #2: Check out your organisation's advice on security and follow it; one virus is enough to deal with right now Some advice at consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2020/0…

My #WorkFromHome suggestion #1: Check your light levels in your work area. It can reduce eye strain and fatigue There are (free) apps for your smartphone to check light levels There are (free) apps to adjust screen brightness too; a shoutout to f.lux (that's what I use)

If you have an afternoon slump, wherever you work, try lumosity. It's not free but it gives your brain a little workout that gets the old CPU working a little faster.

Over 250 years to 2060 global super powers ascend and are usurped. The UK surpassed France after Waterloo. The US surpassed the UK in 1873. China will pass the US in 2030. But the power transition isn’t immediate. America waited 70 years to replace the UK as global super power – at Melbourne, Victoria

The US has commanded the largest economy on earth since 1873. It did not assume the mantle as dominant military force until 1945. The UK took 15 years from Waterloo to assume dominance over France. GDP is destiny. By 2030 China will dominate leading to... geopolitical disruption. – at Melbourne, Victoria
