Delighted and proud to be joining the Government as a whip in @UKHouseofLords.
Can't wait to help drive forward Labour’s plan for change, including important Bills coming up in the Lords on improving our schools, making work fairer and building more homes and infrastructure.

Comment from Councillor James Slater after being selected by the Labour group in Camden to be the next council leader.
‘It’s a huge honour to have been selected by my colleagues to be the next leader of Camden Labour and Camden Council.
‘I moved to this borough a decade ago and fell in love with Camden’s creativity, diversity and opportunity. I’ve seen it firsthand while living in all corners of our borough, and serving our diverse communities as a school and NHS governor, trustee, volunteer and now as a councillor.
‘My mission is simple: I want every resident, in every part of Camden, to share in the borough’s success. That means working tirelessly to improve opportunities for young people, tackling the housing crisis, and transforming our public services.’

We support the Labour Party’s call on Green Groups in local government to condemn the ‘Zionism is Racism’ motion.

The prime minister says the Green Party’s motion opposing a two state solution for Israel and Palestine is anti semitic - and that Labour could not form any alliance with the Greens while that remains its official policy

At PMQs, Prime Minister @andyburnham told the House of Commons that he condemns the Green Party’s ‘Zionism is Racism’ motion as antisemitic.
Burnham also said that the Labour Party cannot support a partnership with a party that holds an antisemitic position.

As a British Jew, I am deeply concerned by the Green Party's vote to declare Zionism racism.
Whatever our political differences, Jewish people must never face prejudice or discrimination.
Yesterday, I raised these concerns in Parliament and asked how Jewish communities can be reassured.
I welcome the Home Secretary's clear response: every council, regardless of political control, must uphold equality law and protect its residents from discrimination.

Throughout our campaign, Labour chose hope.
And the people of Holborn and St Pancras chose it with us.

Introducing Labour's newest Member of Parliament, Sagal Abdi-Wali.
Holborn and St Pancras voted to hope again.🌹
Perceptive analysis by @PeterKellner1.
Forget Green guff about their vote share trebling; ignores impact of other far left candidates running at GE.
By contrast, Sagal did better than any other by-election where Lab was defending a seat whilst in Gov

New Labour MP Sagal Abdi-Wali's by-election victory has triggered another raft of abusive online messages in response to news reports.
She told the CNJ today that would not be deterred and that part of the way to beat the trolls was to have more people coming forward from diverse communities into public roles.
She added there was a need for a "wider conversation" with tech companies about responsibility for what they allow to be posted.

Hope wins 🌹
Those trying to divide will always get found out
Congratulations @Sagal_AW !!

Fantastic to see @Sagal_AW, Labour's newest MP, this morning!
So pleased and proud of her and her positive campaign which showed the Greens that Camden doesn't do division.
Polanski's Greens are more interested in stoking hate than promoting hope. They've been sent packing.
