There's some conflation of issues around RCV and vote counting. Elections offices don't call races the night of, that's the press. The problem is that elections offices don't make counts of any choice other than first publicly available

These Governors pulling their National Guard troops away from their full-time jobs and their families, just to have them standing around being hot and bored for a photo-op is wild.
WASHINGTON (AP) — South Carolina, Ohio also sending National Guard troops to DC in further escalation of federal intervention in Dem city.

The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers. He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.

Orange catholic Bible when?
Pope Leo XIV explains his choice of name: "... I chose to take the name Leo XIV. There are different reasons for this, but mainly because Pope Leo XIII in his historic Encyclical Rerum Novarum addressed the social question in the context of the first great industrial revolution. In our own day, the Church offers to everyone the treasury of her social teaching in response to another industrial revolution and to developments in the field of artificial intelligence that pose new challenges for the defence of human dignity, justice and labour."

A liveable mars is also dependent on a stable sun you doofus

Are you still paying bukele to illegally hold him? Don't you think that should stop?
Replying to @Mikel_Jollett
Are you proposing that we invade El Salvador to retrieve a gang member with no legal right to be in our country? Where in the Supreme Court’s decision does it require us to do that?

Just taking the implication here: if a journalist can somehow insert themselves into their signal conversation, why are they using that app to plan military strikes? Couldn't any of our adversaries do the same thing?
Ingraham: "I don't mean to be pedantic here, but how did the number get in the chat?" Waltz: "Have you ever had somebody's contact that shows their name and then you have somebody else's number there? Right? You've got somebody else's number on someone else's contact."

They're a coequal branch of government. You're arguing against the constitution.
I don’t remember voting for any federal judges last November.

I'm starting to think that Chuck Schumer might not be a strategic genius.
Two Republican senators told me tonight this vote shows they can execute the same strategy again — cut Democrats out of the negotiations on a gov’t funding bill, pass it thru the House, and expect Senate Dems to back down and not filibuster it. “We liked it over here,” one said.

Hoping the House changes its mind is not an affirmative course of action. Voting for cloture on the bill that causes the problem is abandoning DC.
HUGE update for DC: Schumer says Senate will vote on a standalone bill to resolve DC's problem -- anticipated $1B in cuts due to omitted provision -- immediately following CR. ***Critical: Told no filibuster required, only simple majority****

Putting aside for a second whether the shutdown is the correct or incorrect call for Dems, just worth noting that Trump will get more *legal* power over the federal budget under the CR, at least per numerous appropriators/approps experts I've interviewed Sen. Patty Murray (Washington) published a list of dozens of examples of programs that the House-passed measure could allow Trump to change w/o Congress For instance, Trump would have “near-absolute” authority over specific Army Corps of Engineers projects. More authority to pick which health-care or mental health programs to implement. “Broad discretion” over Centers for Disease Control and Prevention programs, per Murray’s office.

If that was all the bill did, it wouldn't be 99 pages. This makes significant changes to current spending, and was written without bothering to negotiate with Democrats, whose votes they need for passage.
Getting request for comment on the "should Democrats shut down the government?" question in the family & friends group chats (and the new podcast isn't up yet), so I'll just post my response here:

You could have made us a state in 2021, but your caucus decided preserving the filibuster was more important. If you won't use that now to keep us from being punished for no federal benefit, this is your fault.
Asked @SenSchumer whether he's considering any options to address DCs $1B cuts before voting for that "First, Republicans made this mistake. It’s in their bill. So they’re responsible for it. But, a number of them have said that they realize it was a mistake, & I think we can...

Extreme hypocrisy from an administration that literally just threw a green card holder in ICE detention because of his political speech.
AG Pam Bondi to Fox Biz this AM: “If you targeted someone, if you went after someone because of their political affiliation, we will be investigating you” “We will be looking at you because that's the weaponization, and it has to stop,” Bondi said POTUS will speak at DOJ today

Even if one believes opposing cloture is a political risk for Democrats—though new polling shows exactly the opposite, with most voters saying they’d blame Republicans for a shutdown—if Ossoff is putting country first and doing it, then other Democratic Senators have no excuse.
Ossoff, the most at-risk Senate Dem, will oppose cloture on GOP CR

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez tells reporters Senate Dems can still change their minds on CR & House Dems will push them to tonight On point from Schumer that shutdown is worse than the CR: "I cannot underscore enough how incorrect that is," saying failure to block it empowers Musk cuts
There it is. SCHUMER: “While the CR bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse.”

Unlike now where they are cherry picking which parts of government to shut down
If we enter a shutdown, Congressional Republicans would weaponize their majorities to cherry-pick which parts of government to reopen.
