A few bowhead whales born around 1815 might still be alive. They were in their 30s when they first saw a commercial whaling ship; in their 60s when they first heard a propellor; over 100 the first time they heard sonar. I wonder if they remember the silent ocean.
the reason moby-dick remains such a vital piece of human art is that it addresses what is probably one of humanity's greatest collective atrocities, the genocide of the whales, with an ambivalence it cannot itself fully articulate. melville is distraught, but he can't explain why

Hello Donald this is your elections advisor speaking. I am advising you today to please keep talking about this shit.
Trump: I don't know anything about a stepfather. This has nothing to do with the stepfather. She says her daughter is a liar

AI writing isn’t bad per se. What’s bad is that it obscures the level of effort the prompter put into getting to that result. Was it the product of an hour of back and forth where you iteratively chiseled your way to the right solution, or did you one shot it? I have no idea.

Taking the time to clean up the verbal tics and overused formatting is a sign of care. I know that at least you read the thing you’re presenting to me and put a modicum of thought into making it readable.

My baseline assumption around unedited AI output is “this is disposable”. If it’s code, I won’t feel any hesitation about blowing it away and rewriting. If it’s a document, I won’t think twice about ignoring its recommendations.

there’s this vintage short essay 'i want a wife' by judy brady, a tired 1970's housewife who asks for a wife of her own to offload tedious tasks to and it is also inadvertently one of the best product roadmaps i've seen for personal ai assistants/ home robotics

Correct. We're getting the biggest "bug bash" in human history, probably what would have been ~40 years' worth of disclosures and CVEs in existing software, compressed in ~2. What the industry needs is fixers, and new (faster) ways to fix!
