A truly double delight for chess lovers. Today is World Chess Day, and the All India Chess Federation (AICF) is pleased to release the another instalment of quarterly stipends, ranging from ₹60,000 to ₹1,50,000, totalling ₹42,30,000, to 42 top players across the U7 to U19 categories (Open and Girls), based on their performances in the 2024 National Championships. This is the first time in the history of Indian chess that our players and prodigies are receiving such financial support, so they do not have to give up their passion due to financial constraints. These stipends will support their coaching and travel needs, enabling them to compete globally and pursue higher goals with confidence. This is part of AICF's ambitious plan to create a robust ecosystem for chess in India, inspired by the vision of Aadarniya Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji to empower and encourage athletes at the grassroots. If chess is your dream, chase it. We are with you. @narendramodi @mansukhmandviya @FIDE_chess @advorkovich @PMOIndia @IndiaSports @Media_SAI @aicfchess

The tricolour 🇮🇳 is on the FIDE Chess Olympiad podium again!! Our Open & Women’s teams have fought with courage, played with belief and carried the hopes of 1.4 billion Indians on every board. And today, they bring home Silver🥈(Open Team) and Bronze🥉(Women Team) medals from the Olympiad. We came to Samarkand as defending champions. We came for Gold. It wasn’t to be this time. Proud of our players, coaches and the entire team. The fact that anything less than Gold now feels unfinished tells you how far Indian chess has come. India. We play. We fight. We win. 🇮🇳 @narendramodi @mansukhmandviya @PMOIndia @Media_SAI @FIDE_chess @aicfchess @ChessbaseIndia @chessgmkunte @srinathchess @DGukesh @ArjunErigaisi @rpraggnachess @viditchess @NihalSarin @swayams2150 @humpy_koneru @chessvaishali @DivyaDeshmukh05 @vantikachess @savithachess

Super tough day against Uzbekistan. Indian Open team’s first loss in any team event since 2022. Starting from the 2024 Olympiad, we’ve had a ritual of picking our Player of the Day. Yesterday, it was unanimous: Nihal. The message was: Whilst results do matter, the effort and process matter more. Results don’t always convey the full story. It doesn’t show the attitude behind. Nihal played his heart and soul out. He could have played it safe, stayed solid, and likely, blameless. But he went for it from the word go, despite having Black. It was only because of his incredible fight that the team got into its best chance to beat Uzbekistan after 4 draws between the two powerhouse teams. Every great result, including our 2024 Olympiad win came on the back of years of preparation coupled with earlier struggles and setbacks. Our result yesterday was a similar stepping stone towards some great result in the future. The result didn’t go our way yesterday. But I am sure Nihal will win us many medals in both the near, and distant future. 🇮🇳❤️
