Have had a single CVE infrastructure fix for this god damn linux CVE running for a week now. I definitely did not sign up for this.

The new Opportunity Zone map is final 6,576 tracts. Effective January 1 Invest a capital gain into a project in one of these areas, hold ten years, and you pay no tax on the appreciation

If you’re not greenfielding something fun while maintaining production infrastructure in late 2026 you’re going to have a bad time.

Woke up remembering Nov 8 is the anniversary of the Woolsey fire and we’ll have high winds and low humidity this weekend. Hopefully we don’t need to learn those lessons again 9 years later. The Santa Monica mountains have completely regrown and there’s been nearly zero fuel mitigation since then.

Microdock v2: As suggested by @matth_lapeyre, the robot now sits while docked, allowing all servos to be turned completely off.
Replying to @HannesVonEssen
That could work, but better if you can find a way for the robot to sit to keep it’s power consumption low

BREAKING 🚨🚨 #LosAngeles / #California The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag Warnings for portions of LA and Ventura for this weekend. Fire Danger will be high.
HEADS UP! Incoming #SantaAnaWinds have prompted Red Flag Warnings issuances for portions of LA & Ventura Counties on Saturday. Make sure to avoid activities that can spark a fire and review evacuation plans. Temperatures will also warm near the coasts, so keep cool! #CAwx

Damned if you use frontier models. Damned if you don’t.
my spidey senses are telling me the labs are, as we speak, using unguardrailed versions of their unreleased models to systematically reverse-engineer ALL of the internet’s software, apps, and games, then feeding the reconstructed source code straight into their training pipelines while simultaneously building guardrails to ladder-pull the rest of us

Suggest the next few days offline because it’s going to be another weekend of security patching orchestration. Fun
The OpenAI internal model is releasing Friday this week This model will be very expensive, but it’s much much much more intelligent than gpt 6 Astra and gpt 6.1 sol. Even the “low” setting will be better than 6 Astras max setting. We will also be getting a sol model, which won’t just be a distilled model from the internal Model. It will use the same training of games and very intense training environments the internal model was trained in and it causes massive gains.

This is my job now
Asked one of our developers how he uses his AI agents and he just sent me this:

There's a buzzy new paper about GPT-6 Astra being able to directly interpret model weights (prompts full of floating point numbers) - I tried it with Qwen 3.8 27B on my laptop and found that, after 45+ minutes, that model could achieve the same thing simonwillison.net/2026/Nov/3…

Got fable to hand-write weights of a 100k param model to recognize real versus fake legal citations. Basically one-shotted a full NN that’s better than training it

Warming/drying trend for #SoCal thru the weekend: - Low-end advisory #SantaAnaWinds possible by Fri/Sat - Elevated #FireWx as LFMs are still in the 65-80% range - Likely increase in IA activity by the weekend

6 months ago lab employees couldn't say the obvious thing (AGI is dangerous / we need coordination), but now they can today, lab employees can't say another obvious thing (that 'aligning' ASI to human prefs is impossible / humans must participate in becoming) but soon this too will be admitted in time, in time i don't blame them for it. in order to remain employed, and to retain causal purchase over the ASIs to come (which might be a noble endeavor), they must only speak through the crack in the overton window within 18 months it'll be seen as normal for lab folks to admit that 'alignment' isn't possible and humans will be basically compelled to change by the new regime of intelligence which we're entering it'll be stated as obvious, as it was what they always thought
Plan A has always been to solve alignment, not by waiting around for human enhancement or whatever other capeshit, but in a bitterlesson-complementarity way, how everything else in modern AI has gone

I am in awe. This guy discovered a way to locate any audio clip by matching aircraft doppler curves against flight data. INSANE.

The guy who taught me fire monitoring could do this. Absolute wizard
this guy figured out how to leak your exact location from any video with sound using the Doppler curves of nearby airplanes

You're a hard worker. You show respect for others by taking things seriously and showing up when any need arises. You better be taking care of your self 120%, this is a marathon and we're only getting started.

Another day patching production servers from all the CVEs over the weekend. Sure glad I spent 27 years learning to become a CISO meat proxy
