The level of disrespect leadership have towards GPs is simply stunning And years of such behaviour, casual throw away comments then cascades into anyone & everyone thinking they can do the “job of a GP” And the onus of learning from that- and changing that- lies on all of us. And I do mean “us” as Consultants. You want to change the narrative, have quality referrals, better care? You start by ensuring not anyone has a crack at their job- and thereby provide lesser care due to their lack of training, Wild West of regulation and a Dunning-Kruger that fizzes. Quite simple when you think of that As regards GP representation from national bodies? Lesser said the better over the last decade or so. #TuesdayThought

Latest NHS mail changes are about to cause chaos to rotational members of staff. Information governance strikes again. There needs to be urgent reform.

GPs in England SHOULD NOT feel pressured to sign up to neighbourhood arrangements before they're ready. Here's why.

As I have said many a time? The healthcare system in this country is awash with Dunning-Kruger Yet- it isn't the fault of the individual alone. It's also because many a GP leader have encouraged colleagues to think such. As has @rcgp with their past policies and their former Presidents etc And here we are. If that's how you feel GPs are trained- why indeed is there a surprise when many feel 'we can do their job'? For the record? Here is how you get to be a newly qualified GP. And me-as a Consultant for 18 years would be less trained than a newly qualified GP - to be a GP. Yet? The belief in the tweet is simply- stunning @Parody_RCGP @VictoriaTzB @DrSelvarajah @doctor_katie @CoastingGP @padsbigsis Link: bmj.com/careers/article/how-…
Is it reasonable to assume that a PA with 10 years of supervised clinical experience is inherently less safe or knowledgeable in every scenario than a newly qualified GP?

Serious questions are being raised about NHS waiting list figures after a sharp rise in patients being removed from waiting lists without treatment. In March alone, more than 350,000 patients were removed. I asked Ministers, why? A thread 🧵 1/12

The thing about this is we have a leader in the space who will not let this shit go. Meanwhile mental health leads and cancer leads at NHS England rubber stamp and come after those who raise a flag. Hat tip to @parthaskar
Just seen a 'contract' issued by a #NHS team to a child with #T1Diabetes- that to keep their Insulin Pump- you must have 70% Time In Range. Firstly? It's illegal to do so Secondly? That's not even clinically logical Importantly? Healthcare is about humanity For clarity- this is NOT an ask from @NHSEngland Just a reminder -at this stage. Please don't do silly things. Also...am still around. Thanks. #gbdoc @BT1DUK @DiabetesUK

Kill Bill - the Health Bill needs to be scrapped
GP practices are patient data protectors The new Health Bill will remove the GP & move the data controller (protector) role to the Secretary of State for Health Your sharing data ‘opt-out’ may not be protected in the same way I have ‘opted out’ but doesn’t stop sharing data

ausdoc.com.au/news/older-pat… “compared to seeing a new GP, seeing your usual GP was linked with an 11-21% reduction in hospitalisations, including ED presentations. For patients seeing a known GP, there was an 18-28% reduction.” Continuity of care matters!

Wow. Everyone needs to read this. All Labour MPs and party members need to understand this. Especially @jamesmurray_ldn The Lords will stop this, & we will support them. So let’s work together to make it right. medconfidential.org/2026/wes… @BMA_GP

Editor: I’m so proud of our 6,200 GP practices nationwide who delivered 388,000,000 appointments in the past year on record tiny proportion of NHS budget where 0.02% interactions result in a complaint. I hope @wesstreeting @SKinnock would also decry this reporting. @BMA_GP

GPs in England are launching collective action TODAY, after our GP committee voted that Government proposals don’t go far enough. We’re taking action on data sharing agreements, because policy proposals have not gone far enough to convince GPs that the profession will be protected. I must say...I am yet to understand what is the difference between a 'Neighbourhood Health Centre' or the need to have it. Rather than resource GP surgery adequately and do things that way. Unless this is just simply about 'We just dislike GPs' and want anyone else to lead it.

When I started as a GP I never realised how much my job would be about fighting the system to get care for patients. I should not have to battle to get care for ill people.

When- as a specialist- you see a patient who says something negative about their GP? Don't smile and go along with it. Explain why it's difficult for GP to give them the access and care they need And how we work to a narrow area of expertise compared to the broad area they do. Times are tough enough- and the least we can all do? Is help our own doctor colleagues. Just a personal view.

Your GP says you should see a hospital specialist for your condition Labour’s new Single Point of Access now decides whether that GP referral goes through They have a target to "redirect" 25% of referrals I wanted to know: who is making that decision? I asked the Minister 👇
