One of my favorites: Ralph Waldo Emerson
If our young men miscarry in their first enterprises, they lose all heart. If the young merchant fails, men say he is ruined. If the finest genius studies at one of our colleges, and is not installed in an office within one year afterwards in the cities or suburbs of Boston or New York, it seems to his friends and to himself that he is right in being disheartened, and in complaining the rest of his life. A sturdy lad from New Hampshire or Vermont, who in turn tries all the professions, who teams it, farms it, peddles, keeps a school, preaches, edits a newspaper, goes to Congress, buys a township, and so forth, in successive years, and always, like a cat, falls on his feet, is worth a hundred of these city dolls. He walks abreast with his days, and feels no shame in not `studying a profession,' for he does not postpone his life, but lives already. He has not one chance, but a hundred chances.
To all the ladies with I love Jesus in their bio and rocking cleavage shots in their profile pic, it kind of kills your credibility a little bit.

American news networks almost never mention it, but ask any U.S. soldier or Marine who flew into Baghdad between 2004 and 2008 about the sky-blue Japanese C-130s.
During the height of the Iraq War, roads around Baghdad were packed with roadside bombs. Every time U.S. troops moved by truck convoy, young Americans died. They desperately needed air transport.
Japan's constitution forbade its military from firing a single bullet in offensive combat. Critics said Japan would stay home.
Instead, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force sent its C-130H Hercules transport crews straight into the fire.
Why did the Japanese paint their cargo planes pale sky-blue? Because insurgent snipers and shoulder-fired missile teams were waiting around Baghdad International Airport. Since the Japanese crews carried no offensive weapons, they painted their planes the exact color of the desert sky so gunners on the ground could not lock onto them with the naked eye.
To dodge surface-to-air missiles, those Japanese pilots flew directly over the airfield at high altitude, chopped the throttle, and dove straight down in a violent corkscrew spiral onto the tarmac.
For four years and nine months, Japan's blue C-130s flew 821 mission days. They carried 673 tons of supplies and transported 46,500 U.S. and coalition troops safely out of harm's way without losing a single life.
American GIs called them the Baghdad Express.
A warrior does not need to fire a rifle to save his friend. Sometimes he just needs to paint his wings the color of the sky and dive into the storm.

How many Americans know that for eight straight years after September 11, Japanese warships stood in 120-degree heat in the Indian Ocean to pump 135 million gallons of free fuel into the U.S. Navy?
After the twin towers fell in 2001, American carrier strike groups raced to the Arabian Sea to strike terrorist strongholds in Afghanistan.
Why could American warships not simply pull into Middle Eastern ports to refuel? Because just one year earlier, suicide bombers in a small boat had blown a forty-foot hole in the destroyer USS Cole in Yemen. Entering port meant risking ambush and losing days off the front line.
Within weeks of 9/11, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force dispatched its fleet oilers, including JS Towada, JS Tokiwa, and JS Mashu, ten thousand miles from home.
Sailing side by side with U.S. destroyers and cruisers at twelve knots across heavy ocean swells, Japanese sailors shot steel cables across the water and winched thick rubber fuel hoses into American tanks without spilling a single drop.
From December 2001 to January 2010, Japanese crews completed 939 underway refueling operations. They delivered 510,000 kiloliters, roughly 135 million gallons of fuel, plus 11,000 tons of fresh water, entirely paid for by the Japanese taxpayer.
On the final day of the mission in January 2010, American sailors lined the rails of their warship in the blazing sun, took off their caps, and saluted the Japanese crew as the hoses were uncoupled for the last time.
True loyalty does not ask for a camera. It holds the line for eight years in the sun.

Left Sisu. I was hoping it was something else, but Sisu is good too. Landrace from the altiplano. I have found tubers lying on the ground that survived frost down to 20F.
Right: Perennial diversity. Right has left in its pedigree; inherited some measure of frost resistance in the tubers.
Neither has frost-resistance in the vines which is what I'm looking for. That comes from high-elevation wild species which complicates things. Above all, bitter tubers. It can be selected out but more work than I have bandwidth for. I need an understudy. Gotta teach my offspring how to do controlled pollinations of potatoes.
@chrismartenson if you need some resilient crops for food security reasons, let me know. Right should be fairly acceptable. I also have some other germplasm worth having/sharing.

🚨URGENT PRAYER FOR MY GRANDSON
🙏❤️ URGENT PRAYER REQUEST FOR MY GRANDSON CLAYTON ❤️🙏
Good evening, my beloved Kingdom Prayer Wall family. I come before you tonight with a grandfather’s heart, asking my brothers and sisters in Christ to please join me in prayer for my precious grandson, Clayton. 🙏
I just received a message from my son that Clayton is at the emergency room. His younger brother accidentally scratched his eye and is in so much discomfort that he cannot open it. They are talking about possibly transferring him to UK(University of Kentucky)Hospital tonight.
KPW family, I’m asking each of you to please lift my little grandson up before the throne of grace.
Please pray that our Heavenly Father places His healing hands upon Clayton’s injured eye, eases his pain, protects his eyesight, and brings him complete healing. Pray also for the doctors and nurses, that the Lord will guide their hands and give them wisdom as they care for him.
As his grandpa, I wish I could take every bit of his pain away. But I know a Heavenly Father who loves him even more than I do, and I am placing my precious grandson in His mighty hands tonight.
I believe in the power of prayer, and I believe there is power when God’s children come together in the precious name of Jesus! 🙌
Thank you, my dear KPW family, for standing with me and my family in prayer. Your prayers mean more to this grandpa than words can ever express.
Lord Jesus, please touch my precious Clayton tonight. Protect his eyesight, take away his pain, and bring him safely through this. I trust You, Lord, with all my heart. ❤️🙏
In the mighty and precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
AMEN AND AMEN! 🙏❤️
With love and gratitude,
Your brother in Christ, Allen Wheeler ❤️

I think pandora's box has been opened and people are not going to like the result.
Das dicke Ende kommt noch
What really burns me the most is that while many of us were running Combat Operations in good faith (while laying our lives on the line), these people were spending 20 years in Washinton D.C. (during the same period) pulling the rug out from under everything that America stood for.
It makes me wonder how many Americans lost their lives overseas because these people were playing games inside our governement.

These pages take a long time because I'm doing them the hard, slow way, watercolor & ink.
For heaven's sake if this project interests you —follow me. I'm doing the math and I need the first story to do extremely well if I'm going to make the money work.
I want passion to win.
The first 4 pages sans text for PetraCor, my Anglo-Saxon graphic novel.
Each chapter is a self-contained episode. A early-medieval Twilight Zone structure with stories inspired by Dante, English and Celtic fable, and the real history of 8th century England.
I can't wait to start drawing creatures. The truly strange stuff. That's certainly a highlight.
But the heart of the story is two men --one a Saxon thegn whose life of bloody conflict has left him searching for meaning, and the other a young Lombardian exile whose aristocratic family was unseated by Charlemagne's conquests in Italy. With all lost, he lives in the present.
Thrown together, they wander the length of Albion on a path to the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne, navigating the layers of cultures that centuries of conquest had brought to the isle.
Saints, monsters, druids, wicked gods and men, nature and the ruins it has reclaimed pepper the road between Wintanceastre and Lindisfarne in Anno Domini 793.
My friend's dad accidentally became the most popular person in his apartment building because he didn't understand the group chat.
Someone posted, “Does anybody have a ladder?”
He replied, “Yes.”
Then nothing.
The person eventually knocked on his door, borrowed the ladder, and returned it.
A few days later, somebody asked if anyone could help carry a sofa upstairs.
He replied, “Yes.”
He helped.
Then someone needed a ride to the hardware store.
“Yes.”
For about two months, this retired man responded to nearly every request with the same single word.
His daughter finally explained that he wasn't obligated to help everybody.
He looked offended.
“I know that.”
“Then why do you keep saying yes?”
He shrugged.
“People keep needing things I can do.”
Last month, the building organized a little birthday party for him in the lobby.
He showed up carrying extra folding chairs because he thought somebody might need them.

They’re weak. And their bloodline is weak.
Had dinner yesterday with a friend & his girlfriend, who both quit caffeine.
He told me about his business partner, a guy in his late 20s who struggled with chronic high blood pressure and tinnitus, and would often get blurry vision, even though he exercises, eats healthy and does everything “by the book”.
Seven days after quitting caffeine, his blood pressure has normalized, the tinnitus has significantly reduced and the blurry vision is gone.
Removing caffeine was the only thing he changed.
