Amazing that this line persists despite attitude surveys suggesting the bulk of the radicalisation is, per @Scarlett__Mag, amongst young women.

Thank you for sharing this touching tribute to a man that we all cherished. His loss is felt by all who love the performing arts as well as millions who admired him for the stalwart man he was. I hope it comforts you to know that we loved your friend too, and we mourn with you.
SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

@Timcast pays an emotional tribute to Stewart and the timeless lessons of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, reflecting on the show's message of standing up for what's right.
“There was strength, there was honor, and there was a powerful message in the story. And today we don't have this.”

Very sad news about Sir Patrick Stewart. I had the pleasure of working alongside him in Logan and directing him in one of my favourite Extras episodes, in which he was effortlessly funny. Rest in peace, Sir Patrick. What a talent.

#RIP Patrick Stewart of Star Trek and X Men ...
On 12-4-1997, after getting a @PressClubDC coffee mug, he was asked, "Just from a purely logical point of view, why is it that a Captain whose name is Jean-Luc Picard have a perfect English accent?"

In 2008, Patrick Stewart came to give the South Shields Lecture. People still talk about it. He gave a brilliant evocation of how his upbringing made him an actor and a socialist. And he was hilarious about his job interview for Picard. Great man.

Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Patrick Stewart.
I saw him saw live in the West End in Harold Pinter’s No Man's Land. I was completely captivated. He was as compelling on stage as he was on screen.
My childhood was filled with days watching him daily command the Star Trek Enterprise as Jean-Luc Picard.
Peerless. Irreplaceable. May he Rest in Peace.

We remember Sir Patrick Stewart, who died on 28 October at age 86, leaving a remarkable legacy on stage and screen.
As Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek, Stewart brought intelligence, dignity, and moral courage to the responsibilities of command. His portrayal had roots in naval fiction: Gene Roddenberry encouraged him to read C. S. Forester’s Horatio Hornblower novels to help shape the character.
His maritime roles also included Captain Ahab in Moby Dick (1998) and Captain Nemo in Mysterious Island (2005)—commanders whose very different journeys explored obsession, ambition, and the consequences of power.
From the quarterdeck to the bridge of the Enterprise, Stewart gave unforgettable depth to the figures who stood in command—and invited audiences to consider what leadership requires.
Fair winds and following seas, Sir Patrick.

Patrick Stewart. Turned up so early and so unobtrusively to be a star in the reasonably priced car, we mistook him for a delivery driver and asked him to go round the back. Took his hat off and said, “But I’m the captain of the Enterprise”. Fucking nice guy.
