Attacks on reservation often come from the Supreme Court and High Courts themselves. There was originally no creamy layer in OBC reservation, but the Supreme Court introduced it in 1993. The real question is: Why does the judiciary repeatedly interfere in the executive’s domain? The latest example is the Supreme Court’s ruling on SC reservation. Children of IAS officers should not get reservation benefits. In 2017, Upendra Kushwaha said that judges in India come from only 250-300 families. There are allegations that 95% of judges come from just 400 families. Through the collegium system, judges are appointed who are sons or relatives of former judges or Chief Justices. India is the only country in the world where judges select judges themselves. There should be a serious nationwide debate on ending the collegium system.
